I'm not saying it's not boring, but all three of my partner's and my current cars are silver or grey: Silverado - silver, Sonota - grey metalic, BRZ - dark grey metallic. I like the BRZ color the least because it's too dark. Why is it too dark? It shows dirt sooner than the other two.

After 3 black, 2 blue, 1 red, 1 silver, 1 green, and 2 white vehicles prior to our current three, we bought the Sonata and Silverado in grey/silver because the previous silver vehicle was the only one that looked reasonably clean all the time regardless of whether it was washed yesterday or last week.

I would paint my BRZ Fluro-green and deal with it looking dusty faster, but Minister of Finance says no.

Classic red sports car should never go out of style. I might’ve chosen base model over a ts if it was red.

There are but a very few car colours that are universally iconic.

On a side note, I have been sifting the classifieds to adopt a kitten or young cat.
I am hoping to find a red tabby and name him Enzo.

See the iconic car colour tie-in there?

To me there are three classic sports car colours that will never go out of style.

Now I just need a red one next.

British Racing Green and its tonal analogs are pretty good. I’d chose a good saturated yellow before an orange though.

I still think that Hakone green is effing gorgeous. Right up there with the Miata's Soui Red Crystal. While I prefer the front end of the new BRZ, if the 2022 86 was available in that shade (highly unlikely, I know) that would take precedence.

yes white cars can be up to about 20 degrees cooler than black but there are loads of other colours in between where the difference just isn't that be.

White, black and grey cars are simply more populer everyplace right now regardless of heat.
Those are rental cars.

OK Here is a shopping center.
There are 172 vehicles here.
Of that there are 72 of them that are white or silver. That is pretty far off of "9 out of 10" no matter how you spin it.
Sure there are some that will consider heat over colour preference but the number one selling consideration for any car in the general public is colour. People will chose their favourite colour over such things as heat more often than not.

Well, if you want to miss points and make semantical arguments, the #1 selling point of a car isn't color, I'd say safety is first, then perceived reliability, cost, etc etc etc. So if one were to compare a Chevrolet Malibu in their favorite shade of blue (favorite color amongst males apparently) vs a silver Honda Accord, well, the math says the Accord wins.

Further, when a person finally gets down to comparing two identical cars, and then things like color becomes the deciding factor, again you are mistaken because people don't normally choose their favorite personal color as their car color, otherwise there would be a ton more blue cars on the road since that is the most common choice for color preference for males and females. Consider that in almost every color poll, blue ranks the highest, with shades of brown and orange ranking the lowest, with shades of grey not even registering. The most popular colors sold are white, shades of grey, and black, and Toyota seems to be able to sell a ton of beige.

And as far as people in Hawaii buying cars is concerned, there is absolutely a preference for lighter colors. White 4 Runners and Tacoma Crew Cabs for instance are bread and butter cars in Hawaii, with special edition colors closely behind. But of course, manufacturers sell cars by batches, and not just based on what they're selling, and there are alot of people who aren't as steadfast as say car enthusiasts when it comes to color. If the car is there, the color doesn't offend them, and they can deal on it, they'll buy it. So maybe not 9/10, I mean what OEM actually makes 9/10 cars in a similar shade? But I believe the point was that the majority of people in Hawaii prefer lighter cars for practical reasons, based on my own anecdotal evidence, I'd say I can't disagree with that point unless I wanted to make an argument about the 9/10 aspect. But what's the point of that.

Safety, features, price, blah, blah, blah does it come in beige?

Ha...I remember sometime around 2008 the Chevy Malibu was offered in no less than five shades of beige. Yeeesh! But I suppose if any car is to be offered that way it should be the Malibu. I mean...someone has to make rental cars, right?

Only two people with any taste in that crowd getting a real color.

There's 4 red cars, 5 if one counts the dark maroon bmw, and 1 yellow car.

Pretty much the mix you will find in any lot in any location across North America regardless of temperature.

Using some real data shows one of the states where you would expect the white/silver car rule to dominate shows that even combined they are only a little over 40% of the cars sold. This is still a far cry from "9 out of 10".
