True... Thought you had one for sale or something. Way to rich for my blood anyways.

Upper limit of my budget is around $30k.

Definitely no lightly used Supras for anything close to that price. Also, again, wouldn't trade in my 3rd pedal love for a boosted I6.

Used veloster N 2020 with 6sp and performance pack

Or

Used mustang GT with 6sp and performance pack... Should give you the best of both worlds

Thumbs up

Thanks for suggestions, but:

1) Not a Mustang fan unless it's a GT350 (out of my price range). And I say this having driven a few.
2) I already own a FWD 300 hp hot hatch (my GTI). No reason to purchase another one. That and I have zero interest in tracking anything FWD.

C6 Grandsport!

Are you tethered to RWD? An Evo could be good. I liked the Focus RS as well but the rear diff potentially has some issues going into limp mode under hard track use.

Failure points on the M156 engine are: stretched head bolts, stuck (open) fuel injectors, premature wear on camshafts and premature failure of cam adjusters. The last two happen from not following a rigorous oil change regiment. The faulty headbolts were replaced with a redesigned part midway through 2010 and do not afffect later year models.

I drove a P31 C63 this past Monday afternoon. P31 denotes that it has the forged engine internals from the SLS M159 engine, LSD, 2 piece front brake rotors and painted brake calipers. It also has 30 more hp (481 vs 451) but that is a moot point really as the engine was artificially restricted from the factory and a simple ECU tune bumps the power from 451 to 540ish hp. The car I drove had, besides a tune, long tube headers and aftermarket midpipes. The sound was insane, yet completely civil when cruising around off throttle. Current owner recently had the transmission fluid flushed, fuel injectors and spark plugs replaced and valve cover gaskets replaced. Its something that I would track just 1-2 times a year.

Tempting, even though I've been a die hard 3 pedal guy my whole driving life. Can always sell the car if I get tired of it.
What's a new engine for one cost? That seemed to be a limiting factor for you in the Porsche.

They're actually cheaper than Porsche engines, and less expensive to install (figures).

A while ago (7 years) I drove a friend's 500whp base C6. Absolutely hated the driving position and sightlines, but I would probably give them another look if the right one came around. Prob just a GC. Love the widebody look, and don't want/need the insane abilities of a Z06.

Elises are hard to find in good shape for under $30k, but I have always liked them. Also wonder how well I would fit in one (6'2" here with tall legs). E92 M3 is out because of the rod bearing issue, though coincidentally my brother is about to list his for sale (6sp). And big nope to M240i - bleh to any non M BMW. I think the 2 series is not great to look at, and I hate BMW's general BS attitude/way of doing things/holier than though approach.

Yeah you might have to reach a bit further into the low 30's, but I've seen nice ones both nice shape track modded as well as nice shape stock in that range. Rod bearings in the E92's are fixable, but it's a 2-3k job upfront unless you find someone who has done it already (well documented). Can't beat them for all-around fun cars tho (and that motor!).

Also you do realize we're all living vicariously through you lol

Exclamation

Haha, welcome to do it!

Yes I have seen that it can be done preventively, really isn't "that bad". Also it's pretty funny because before my brother bought the car I test drove it for him. Car was for sale in Raleigh (where I live) and my brother lives in Charlotte. Also the guy selling the car was a friend of a friend (how I found it for my brother), and I'm now good friends with that guy as well, haha.

I know it's strange, but my only appeal for a large coupe/sedan is the C63 AMG because of it's crazy ass engine. Otherwise I have very little interest in anything that big (I know the M3 is about 300 lb lighter, but it's still a large vehicle to me). I should really hold off on a new car for a little while (prob should invest in the meantime) but I give into temptation + this pandemic is killing me (mentally) + shopping for a new fun car is fun + owning a new fun car and driving it often is a great mental release for me.

Its possible I might really not like a C63 after owning one for some time, even though I barely scratched the surface with the one I drove on Monday and had an absolute riot of a time. So heavy, and just 2 pedals. But...I foresee their values going nowhere but up (next gen is going to be a 4 banger ) so now could be the time to get one. Take it to VIR 1-2 times, then if I'm over it then I can sell it for a 2nd gen BRZ.

A few weeks ago I drove a '94 RX7. Price was $14k, had 139k miles, but it had been sitting a while, it's condition was 6.5/10, had ZERO maintenance records (current owner said previous owner spent $7000 on the engine, but didn't know what that entailed! Rebuild, new engine, performance mods? Guy literally didn't know lol)...and it had a salvage title. I thought about offering him $8000, but before I came up with a number he decided not to sell.

Oh yikes 94 RX7. Love them. Was one of the first cars that really got me into high performance sports cars, never forget that first test drive - brand new R1, riding with the dealership manager, a really cool guy. Soooo glad I didn't buy one though, and I'm a big rotary fan. Lots of risk, even if well documented and maintained.

The AMGs are definitely fun, I drove my friends C63 AMG Black a while back and that thing was a surprising hoot. His tires, not mine lol...

We don't have to always commit to the purest track ethos - in reality we're stuck in traffic most of the time, and if lucky we're having a fairly restrained go on some back roads. Life is short, go with what you like, you can always sell/trade it and go with something else. Savor the excitement of a new car purchase!
