Question No 2021 model

It looks like the next gen twins are launching early next year as a 2022 model

Manufactured again at Subaru's Gunma assembly plant in Japan.

https://bestcarweb.jp/news/scoop/161995

Google Translate:

The engine is equipped with a 2.4L horizontally opposed four-cylinder FA24 whose displacement has been increased from the current 2L (FA20). The FA24 type horizontally opposed four-cylinder turbo is installed in Ascent and Legacy sold in North America, but the new 86 & BRZ is NA instead of turbo, and the maximum output is expected to be about 220 ps. Maximum torque of about 24.5 kgm (6 M/T) and the generated rotation is reduced from the current 6400 rpm to around 5500 rpm, increasing the torque in the medium speed range. This is to improve matching with the A/T and there is also an aim to install EyeSight along with A/T demand in the North American market. Of course, a 6-speed M/T model is also set, but sporty driving with an A/T is also an attraction of the new 86/BRZ. The new 86 & BRZ will be released in March 2021. Wait in anticipation!

It is an urgent task to equip Subaru with the aim of "zero traffic fatal accidents by 2030" that Subaru is actively promoting.

There are also testimonies that the current BRZ was discontinued as soon as possible, partly because Eyesight was not installed.

Naturally, the next BRZ will be equipped with EyeSight, and a similar system will be adopted for the 86.

2020年4月上旬、東京スバルは「BRZの7月受注終了」を明らかにした.これに関してスバル本社も認め ており2020年7月20日をもってBRZの受注は終了する.

At the beginning of April 2020, Tokyo Subaru announced that it will end orders for BRZ in July. Subaru Headquarters has also accepted this, and BRZ orders will end on July 20, 2020.

The final design of the interior and exterior that the Best Car Scoop team grasped, you can finally feel that the "Next-generation 86/BRZ" has entered the countdown for its debut. Let's get closer to the details.

With the new 86/BRZ, the basic platform is said to be a current carryover, but of course the knowledge of Subaru's new "SPG" platform is utilized everywhere. It has a low center of gravity, light weight and high rigidity. Chassis tuning fed back from the 86 & BRZ is included.

The wheelbase is the same as the current model (2570 mm) and the front struts, rear double wishbone suspension type is also the same. Body length of 4250 mm, width 1780 mm, height 1315 mm is almost the same as the current model.

Bump in power with barely a bump in weight keeps me happy. 5500 RPM redline though; really?! this isn't some weird american V8 where they're relying on ridiculous displacement in a pushrod motor, WTH?

If this is true, sales will be neutered by that motor...

Redline is NOT @ 5500 RPM (article does not mention redline)

Max TORQUE is @ 5500 RPM

The article states max torque is achieved sooner than the outgoing FA20 from 6400 RPM down to around 5500 RPM.

More Torque sooner...

"Maximum torque is about 24.5 kgm (177 lb-ft) and the generated rotation is reduced from the current 6400 rpm to around 5500 rpm, increasing the torque in the medium speed range."

If the posted specs for the next gen are correct and the M/T does weigh 1250 kg (2756 lbs)

then it's 20 pounds lighter than a current USDM base model 86 manual which weighs 1259 kg (2776 lbs)

and 77 pounds lighter than a 2020 BRZ tS which weighs 1285 kg (2833 lbs)

The current stripped down JDM models weigh 1210 kg (2667 lbs) with no A/C, no sound system, no spoiler, no spare & 16" wheels.

Don't want to modify a great handling affordable lightweight sports car? - It's good as is.

Like all motor but need more ommphff? - Quality header + Tune. Boom.

Love boost? - If only someone made turbo kits and superchargers for these. Oh wait...

Endless upgrade options for every part of the car? - Yes

Generous secondary economy for parts manufacturing? - Done

Same blueprint for next gen.

Thank you Subaru & Toyota

My bad! I usually have better reading comprehension. I thought 'generated rotation' was just a weird translation of redline.
More torque in the mid rpms will certainly make it more fun for playing on the street (in a safe manner of course)

So you're saying it's mostly a reduction in weight unless that's a completely stripped down car? I can't wait to see the official numbers then!

When's the last time you heard of a new generation of a car being lighter than its predecessor? My fear was that they'd bump it all the way up to 3000 lbs (or more) due to added safety equipment, more sound deadening, etc, etc.

2012 Porsche Cayman - base model - 2932 lbs. - R model - 2855 lbs.

Everyone - "More power needed!"

Subaru- "Here is 12 HP at the peak."

Obviously .4 liters of displacement will be nice... but I'm waiting for an ACTUAL release from subaru to confirm anything.

Just because it's in Japanese does not make it any more believable.
With that said, I don't see anything here that's a surprise. I guess the only surprise is that people are still thinking it'll be better than current gen.

They'd get my dollar if it came with forged internals and a 1.5 way clutch type LSD

Most important to me:

How do I permanently turn off Eyesight Driver Assist aka Safety Sense, so that I don't have to turn it off every time I start the engine ?

What do I cover the cameras with...black tape or blue tape ? Fuck Big Brother watching and recording my every move.

The days of a driver's car are unfortunately gone...We must please the idiot masses.
