I would think that once (if?) these become commonplace in South Africa any would be rapist would simply check and remove the device first right? They are obviously fairly easily removable from the woman. Or am I just overestimating these assholes intelligence?

the pain would cause vasoconstriction. i know its vascular down there but the odds of that being terminal are slim. plus i've seen marines survive with 2L of blood. just saying we all know how amazing the body is and it is capable of doing crazy shit.

Rape is usually about anger and control, not sex. I think the idea is that a violent rapist would be too lost in the moment. However, there is always the possibility that he will. This is not meant to be a guarantee, it's meant to be a deterrent. Like pepper spray. Some people can play through the pain. Most can't.

You're right. But the person who takes that pain and turns it to homicidal anger may have been fully prepared to kill the woman anyways. And it allows the victims of the latter an opportunity to try and escape. Again, see above about deterrence vs. prevention. Prevention involves never leaving your home and setting spring guns at every entrance and having your food and supplies airlifted in for the rest of your life. Or leaving Africa.
