Sounds from the engine

Does anyone else hear the engine purring like sound when it remains in park? I have an automatic 2013 FRS and got it used and still has less than 9000 miles. I do not know if the former owner screwed up the engine internally or something. The sound is kinda like a hoofing sound, coming from inside the engine. Not a belt, but maybe a fan. I have not personally met someone else to compare the sound to. You can also hear it when you are at a stoplight with the windows down.

Cheerz!

WELCOME to the site, WinnaWinna17 ......

Could you expand on ..... "hoofing sound" ... ??

Does it make the sound with the A/C OFF .. ??

Are the cooling fans running when it's making the sound.. ??

If so, you may check and make sure a piece of trash is not coming in contact with the fan blades.

Did it just start doing this .... ?? If so, have you done any engine related mods since it started .. ??

Come back with more info; maybe we can help .....

Sounding like a tractor at idle is normal for a flat engine.

So it's not the AC compressor starting and stopping? Need a better description of, "purring" and "hoofing" are new ones on me.

Running the OFT E85 tune, mine is remarkably smooth and quiet at idle.

Can you mimic the sound and record it using your voice?

Mine has a lot of what I've been referring to as "a lot of belt noise" and depending on the day I'm either concerned or convenience it's just another noise this car makes.

There must be something wrong with the forum...
