Sebring is a bit higher than that, add a few more g's.
Sebring in the summer, last year, was 11. During the season (which for those up north is *NOT* summer here) it was around 13.5 or something I think. I looked at the email earlier but forgot already

PittRace full might be awesome. The second half is under construction so only time will tell. It's owners are VIR, or involved with VIR ownership, forget which. If that includes everything it might not be a terrible price, but I agree it seems high. 9k and we'd probably give it a shot this year.

Yeah thats about right for season pricing.

Yep, principal of PittRace is Jim Stout and his wife, Kathy is a co-owner of VIR. Probably some of the nicest people you'll ever meet; if you come to one of our VIR events they're usually there with the massive Coastal Pet stacker rig. They run a few World Challenge Vipers.

I don't have any contact at AMB, but I can tell you a decoder, timing loop, and orbits software package is around $6,000 - $8,000 retail. Depending on the number of events, it would be more economical to rent it per event from a place like http://www.gpsportstiming.com/AMBInfo.html

NASA uses the AMB/MyLaps solution, and honestly I think it is a rip off. I enjoyed doing their survey a month or so back and telling them this. I would look into one of the cheaper simpler beacon based timing systems. Anyone competing should be okay with spending a few bucks on a transponder versus the huge amount that an AMB costs.

Well I just spoke to the folks at GP sports timing and it looks like I can get everything for $920 per event for 25 transponders. Doesn't seem bad but I have nothing to compare it to. He said that to start out it's a good alternative, but eventually people start buying their own transponders, which I understand.

They cost 400-500. Buy and rent them or make people buy their own After a few events it's cheaper to buy your own anyways, depending on what the rental charges. I think Chumpcar charges 100/event.

Edit: ^^^ or rent them.. and sublet them...

The group @phastafrican linked does it for 20 per transponder and then the laptop/decoder, which is looking pretty damn cheap considering the prices you guys are posting.

That sounds like a decent price to me. Especially when you consider what just one transponder from AMB/MyLaps costs brand new. I agree that renting them out for $50 is a good idea to offset the rental cost.

The $920 includes laptop and decoder rental too, the transponders are 20 each.
