992 Thread: New Porsche 992 GT3 with Andreas Preuninger

I think it impressive Porsche can keep on finding ways to make the model faster.

I think it is impressive that Porsche can continue to design bodies with simple flowing lines instead of trying to look like it is auditioning to be the next batmoble.
Look how simple yet classic that design is. LOOK AT IT SUBARU!

That bescooped/bewinged black GT3 looks *exactly* like it's trying to be the next Batmobile.... Not a huge fan of bloated Porsche designs post-997/987. They're so bulky!

I will give you the wing! I sort of block those out of my mind on any car. At least the scoops aren't sticking out the side of the car like some gothic cathedral carvings.

I’d just get the GT3 Touring.

Biggest takeaway from that was the car still has camouflage body panels. This is not the full release.

Yep! The curse of car models getting bigger over time. The guy from The Smoking Tire was doing a video review on a new/recent Porsche and made the comment that on a piece of road he uses for road tests he had one line down the road because the car was so wide where as in previous models he had room to choose lines through bends.

I personally prefer the new age Porsche design(post 997)but they are more bloated than past Porsches I find to be downright ugly and VW Beetle looking. I prefer the size and weight of the older cars but the new age styling.

One of the best parts of the 911 is the narrow cab and body from the rear that just drapes over the wide wheels, but that has greatly diminished. It still looks like a 911, but definitely bloated.

I do like having the wide fenders on the RWD and the wide front is ok. Overall, the new model looks sharp with the retro cues, and the interior is much more modern, which is nice.

997 and 991 are still my favorites. While this 992 isn’t much bigger, it just looks like it’s put on some serious weight.

And I’ve never been a fan of swan neck type wings; Especially on street cars. They just look so out of place to me.

Happy they’re still making it though.

To illustrate the point about the bulky rear of the 992: The cabin looks slightly wider, and the finders don’t look as wrapped to the shape of the rear tires, as if it is higher. In fact, it reminds me of the Cayman, which isn’t a good thing. Some of it is just the new bulky design but some of it is the higher looking fenders, which doesn’t make it look as planted:

987 Cayman

997 C4S

992 C4S

718 Cayman S

I think it's noteworthy that the power increases have stopped.

With the ginormous bores Porsche uses and the high rpm these run at, there is a bit of room for improvement from higher combustion speed. I wonder if it's possible to tuck extra spark plugs into the head. A better but so far unproven method would be corona discharge ignition. In fact since the GT3 uses high overlap fixed profile cams, corona discharge ignition would be very useful for idle stabilization and fuel economy as well.

You would have to be careful how that propagated.

These guys are supposedly working on it with OEMs (not sure which ones).

I'm hoping one of these fancy multi-point ignition technologies gets the naturally aspirated high revving engine one last upgrade before everything goes electric.
