If they even offer different trims it would probably be more like $40K, $50K, $60K. Even if they cut development costs by using a pile of existing parts and platform Under $40 is not probable for a company fighting for it's life. "The 2020 Nissan 370Z starts with a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $30,090. Add the $895 destination charge and that makes $30,985 for the base coupe with the manual transmission. Sport trim is priced from $34,715; Sport Touring comes in at $40,385; the 2020 370Z Nismo begins at $46,685."

Take this with a gain of salt, but former engineer on the A90 project weights in on the new Z.

Reminds me of the back-and-forth on the 2nd gen Twins, with one option being a cool new platform with lots of potential engine options and the other being reuse of the current platform with a slightly larger engine. On the other hand, the 370Z platform is an evolution of the 350Z, making it 18 years old...

Taking a look over on Infiniti's page the Z could be offered the same way. A base detune 300hp V6 and a high performance 400hp V6.

Looking at KBB, there are a lot of 2020 Supras with a $56K MRSP going for around $48K. Mustangs are $3~5K off for most trims. Base Ecoboosts can be had for $20K. It is true that Nissan can list the cars for anything they want, but coupes aren't super hot right now.
The new Z will be a hot commodity out of the gate, but I would be so shocked to see success with anything but an aggressive pricing strategy. Unless they are greatly limiting production or the car is the second coming. If it proves true that the car is just a warmed over previous-gen (the roofline looks identical which might be our first sign), then they have to know they can't move too aggressively on pricing. But Nissan is mismanaged, so who knows. We will see soon enough, I guess. But for anyone thinking of switching teams, wait 12 months for the markdowns. |

As exciting as this would be not sure how Nissan is going to pull this one off, their financial situation is more than rocky right now...

Uchida, Nissan’s new boss, did promise a revival through a better product line. If that holds true they might just make it.
Ghosn’s race to the bottom may have saved the company from financial ruin, but it seems more and more apparent that it was not a sound long term strategy. |

Auguring in at a steep angle can loosen deposition layers which makes subsequent panning of detritus by the survivors much more lucrative?

Honestly I'm okay with just a heavy revision of the existing Z model. How's that much different than the Supra, which is based on a BMW 3 Series platform that is based off the previous 3 Series platform? Which has a Mac Strut suspension. Nothing super fancy going on there. Really the only gripe I have with the 370Z in its current form is the outdated interior. The rest is pretty good IMO. A little heavy, but that's b/c of platform sharing the FM.
If the new Z does indeed have a 400hp 3.0 V6 I have a hard time believing it'll start below $40k; could maybe be right at $40k. Still a very strong value IMO. I really, REALLY wish they would call it the 300ZX though. 400Z is stupid, and goes against any former naming structure Nissan has used for their sports car (though it is sadly in vogue with many automakers that the number always has to be higher - THANKS BMW!). Meanwhile over at Toyota you can get 0% financing for 60 months on 2020 Supras. And/or $5000 off. One of my neighbors got one (not someone I know, just lives in my development). I think the car looks great in person. But the lack of manual transmission is a major turn off for me. I won't lie - I can't afford a new $50k sports car. However if a manual version was available I would strongly consider a lightly used one.

A heavily revised Z34 sounds great, if;
1. manual stays 2. weight stays under 3300lbs, preferably lighter than Z34. 3. they fix the handling at the limit. 4. backseat? |

The X in 300ZX stood for luxury and comfort oriented features. Is that what you were looking for? Personally, the name doesn't really matter much to me. 400Z sounds perfect. Quote:
I think a twin turbo v6 2 seater in the mid $30k to compete with Mustangs and Camaros will do very well. Obviously, there will be easy tuning potential for more power and that will make it an attractive option. If they can keep the weight under 3200lbs and offer a manual then I would seriously consider it alongside any gen 2 86.
