One of these days I plan on doing a build thread for my garage re-organization. Here's a teaser to remind me to take more pics and get ideas what to put where.
Short summary, we bought our second house, selling point was the pristine maintenance history of the home, and this garage was the icing on the cake. There used to be a '75 Chevelle Laguna S3 next to the '69 Country Squire, but it's in the shop for new paint. Both classic cars belong to the previous owner, who is building a house out of state, so we're babysitting these until his house is done (Spring 2020). Just outside of the pic on the right is a double-door fridge/bottom freezer from our old house (used to be STOCKED , but I gave up beer a few months ago, so it's pop, water, and beef jerky), and a 2' x 4' x 7' storage bench I put together with some lumber and screws, with medium duty rubber casters. As soon as the Country Squire is gone, plans are to build some kind of foldable work station (on casters, everything needs casters!), maybe like a mini station to compliment the quickjack I plan on getting early next month (I have researched to death lift options for this garage with 8'6" ceiling <7'6" in the lowest middle spot>, the quickjack seems to suit me perfectly). Stay tuned! Last edited by ROFL it's Waffle; 12-12-2019 at 08:51 AM. Reason: reduced picture size, my browser wanted me to scroll right.. ain't nobody got time fo dat |

I will take that Squire. Here is my garage. If the snow gets high enough the car is enclosed.

You should build a garage igloo every year.

The previous house had a "2 car garage"... it was tight. Not needing to scrape my windows every snowy morning was enough motivation to find a home with a real garage. This one isn't heated (yet), but it is insulated with R13. Heat isn't high on the list as much as a quickjack. I have race ramps from my WRX days, but they're only rated for 1500 lbs per wheel, and the Lexus is about 1100 per wheel (it's really sketchy on those ramps). Doable, but ramps do nothing for me when rotating tires, changing over winter wheels to "3 season wheels", brake jobs, etc.

My issue would be that since we are so far south I could have an igloo one day and it would be a swimming pool the next.
I think it was only three days after I took the picture above that all that snow was gone.

Yea, that would be an issue. I figured you lived far enough north that once there was snow on the ground it was there until Spring thaw.

I have built an igloo. All you need is a box and a shovel. (and the right kind of snow)
Or, if you are a Yuppie, you just get one of these!!! https://www.rei.com/product/724066/icebox-igloo-maker

Reminds me, I need to get out and start working on my garage. I have some old cabinets and a wall to remove. My new house has basically 2 garages. It looks like a 3 car garage from the front, but there is a support wall between the 2 car and 1 car areas. I need to get a contractor out to get an idea of what it would cost to open the whole thing up. I'm sure that will be cost prohibitive, but never hurts to find out.

Betcha it's not. Of course a contractor will tell you it's a support wall, so he can charge you more to remove it and shore up the ceiling. Are the studs 2x4 or 2x6? What is the spacing? Bubba, with a chain saw, could remove that sucker in a few minutes - then you would know. Is the ceiling of the garage(s) sheet rocked or open? We must have pictures - before and after (if you can get back in there). Seriously, you may wish to stop by that other house with the same plan and see if they have (have considered) taking out that wall. humfrz |
