Unhappy Weird HPFP noise

Hello,

I had my HPFP replaced a few weeks ago and ever since, I have a new noise coming from the pump that I never heard before.

The noise is only audible when the car is cold. It occurs when I begin to press the acceleration pedal. The noise is no longer audible when the RPMs pass 1700.

I brought it back to Toyota and they told me it was normal, and then showed me three other FR-S that all made the same sound (two brand new, one was an employee's)

What I don't get is why I never heard this sound before. How about all of you? Anybody else heard this? It goes away pretty quick, but it is still really annoying to get my car back with a new weird sound that it never had before service.

As Heard...
In Engine Bay (You can begin to hear the noise clearly @ 0:15)

As Heard...
In Cabin (It's a bit harder to hear in this recording, it sounds louder in person. It sounds more Rattle-like in the cabin)

There are at least three versions of the pump out there now, and they all seem to make noise. Or not. Doesn't bother me a bit.

Is this free revving or under load?

Edit: sounds totally normal from the inside cabin clip, the engine bay clip is a bit weird, but I generally don't have my head in there while driving so I have nothing to compare it to, where you have your microphone placed will change the sounds here a ton so it's difficult to call this reliable, if the microphone is right over the valves or DI system this is probably normal.

Mine does it too. Goes away when warm. If it breaks, I'll get them to replace it.

It's only when revving in the low RPMs (700-1600).

It does not make the sound at idle, and goes away when it gets around 1700-1800 rpms.

That does not answer my question.

Is the car moving during these recordings? When you rev the engine and this noise occurs are you accelerating? Or are you parked with the vehicle in neutral?

Car is not moving. The noise happens whether I'm revving the engine in neutral or actually accelerating, makes no difference.

After listening a couple times it doesn't sound out of the ordinary to me. It faintly sounds as if there is something loose and vibrating, but since it goes away at higher rpms this is dubious at best. You could try inspecting all the shrouding and panels to see if there's something loose since they took apart your car to 'fix' it.

It certainly does not sound like anything more than the DI/valvetrain ticking that most owners experience.

lol, I honestly have been considering that.. It's just hard to swallow.

Can't argue with the fact the car has actually been running better since the new fuel pump, feels like it picked up 5-10 HP somehow...

It's just hard for me to accept a new noise like that as normal, even though all the evidence points to that fact.

Well, my car isn't infested with "the crickets", however, it does make a valvetrain "clicking/ticking" sound ..... much like a solid lifter, back in the day, needing some adjustment.

hmmmmm...... ?? .....

Yep, ....... like back in the day, before hydrolytic lifters and overhead cams were popular, ..... if one could hear the tappets chattering, they knew the rocker arms weren't adjusted too tight, so as to not allow the valves to close all the way, thus burning them ...

Someone please re-direct this post to the ..... senior section ....
