What happened to this place?

It used to be pretty busy, but on several of the topic boards there is maybe 1 post a day. Is the car just "figured out" at this point?

I did see a gr86 forum on another site, but they don't have anything for stuff the pre-major facelift. Also--requests are regularly failing.

Is it lack of sponsorship money to pay the server bills? This place has such an incredible wealth of knowledge about the car. I've touched/almost rebuilt everything on my car and been able to do so because of this place.

Not trying to be negative, just curious on other's thoughts and wondering what would need to happen to prevent the frequent instances of timeouts/server errors.

Thanks.

Many automotive forums have slowly withered away as more people have switched to using FB groups and such.

It's true the timeouts are rather infuriating.

Also guessing that the car now being an older model, there might not be as much interest in them as there used to be when they were brand new.

It's a shame as this is one of the nicest car forums I know. I recently bought a 996 and Rennlist is a bit of a dark place. Lots of vendors pushing their products / opinions (including some that have nothing to do with the cars..), some religious-like views on certain topics, etc.

I've noticed it has been far slower than it used to be. This was one of the best forums I've ever been on and I still enjoy it. But like someone else said, the car is aging and isn't the new kid on the block. That and people using Reddit, Facebook, and other social media.

Fricking ads have kinda ruined things a bit. It's just a pain to endure, so people stay away...

Still don't get this comment. Haven't had ads ever.
The only one that ever was a thing is the tiny banner ad at the top. that cycles between Delicious Tuning and Speed by Design. And that hasn't always been the case. Maybe showed up within the last year.

Every time I have ever seen this argument for any of the site I go to it's always because they use a crappy adblocker like AdBlock/Adblock Pro/ublock (not uBlock Origin)
All of those allow people to pay them to not have their ads blocked.

Have been using uBlock Origin for almost a decade now because they are kind of the only people that straight block everything. And don't unblock stuff if someone pays them.

Edit: Forgot the pic. This is the only ad I have ever seen in all these years.
1st pic was form 2019 2nd is from last night.

herr derr use the search function.

Car is getting older though and that has to be a big part of why. Feels like most of it has been figured out except spun rod bearings thing.

Will I be able to buy one of these in 20 years when my kids are in college to rebuild? Do you think I'll be able to get parts? I'll be selling my car in the next few months sadly to get something the family can actually use.

In 20 years there will probably be an EV conversion kit.

The ads, frequency that pages fail to load, and speed degradation are what have driven me away for the most part.
