2022 GR86 MSRP 2k over the BRZ?

I was on the fence, but this may push me towards Subaru. And Toyota wants another 2 points for financing also, if you are unlucky enough not to have your own.

Mt take so far is Toyota will be better for FI (lower compression, massive front grill for intercooler), and BRZ will be just fine normally aspirated.

I do like the Neptune blue though. Just wish I could get it in base trim. I don't want the 18s, heck I don't even want the stock 17s...

Anyone know if we can get it with steelies like the RC spec in Japan?

PS All the above moot as I don't pay MSRP, for anything. So see you in 2 years...

How is the Toyota lower compression? They are the same engine, just like the last gen.

I am basically quoting this article, also claims a 4bhp advantage for the Toyota (with LOWER compression?). Not sure if this is confirmed or not.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/40059/...new-subaru-brz

Toyota.ca Canada confirms the 12.5:1 compressions, but states the bhp is identical (228hp).

https://www.toyota.ca/toyota/en/vehi...tures-benefits

Some reports of the subaru.com version sating the BRZ has 13.5:1 compression. Subaru.ca now says 12.5:1.

Short answer, I am not sure. Lots of misinformation/retractions to date, so they may be identical in the end.

@mangler, IIRC from all the thread there were a bunch of typos/misprints in the early releases of the specs.

It's the same engine so something as fundamental as compression isn't going to be that different. The most you can expect to see is a slightly different ECU tune.

EDIT: Also, if you buy/order now I think Subaru has a $500 off deal still. At $2.5k less than the GR86 it was a no brainer for me to get the BRZ this time.

Looks like the $500 off is gone for the time being, Subaru is probably happy with the extra volume brought by sticker shocked GR86 shoppers. I'll wait it out, it will be back, probably even better after the holidays.

I'm one of the GR86 buyers who said NOPE as soon as Toyota Canada announced pricing.

Was really hoping this would my first fun Toyota since my '87 MR2 but alas nope.

I know of at least one GR86 buyer who stayed the course because the sentiment is that Toyota will stand by the warranty better than Subaru would.
