Super Quick Oil Change Method!!

I picked up a new device. Its called LiquiVac and it allows you to change your oil through your cars dipstick tube. It was $45 on eBay with free shipping. There were several vendors selling them.





The device holds 8 quarts of oil and has a generous amount of tubing. You give the tank about 40 pumps to form a good vacuum.


This tube is laid flat against the dipstick and using a sharpie mark the length of the dipstick. As per the instructions insert the tube no more than 4 inches past that mark you made.


You twist this tab then massive suction occurs. The oil rushed out of the oil pan to my amazement. It never lost suction.


This is a shot of just before all the oil was suctioned out. It took about 6 minutes to fully get everything out. The tubbing starts to hiss air and all you see is bubbles in the tubbing indicating you're done.

All said and done the oil change took about 10 minutes. Toyota wanted $20 bucks for the oil filter but i bought it at the Subaru dealership for $9. I used 0W-20 Eneos Oil. I've been using this brand and its getting me good gas milage and gotten rid of some weird sounds this car was making when it was new. (Its 2 years old now by the way) As it was my first time using this oil change method i had my doubts if all the oil was gone. My buddy and i pushed the car up my low profile ramps and i unbolted the drain bolt plug and to my amazement sure enough no oil left. Just some drips but thats to be expected. The filter came with the crush washer so i buttoned it up and added my oil. I'm sold on this oil change method! No mess whatsoever and it was fast. It seems durable and like it may last a while. If the tubbing gets damaged any auto parts store carries it so i think its a good investment if you're pressed for time and don't wand to put the car up on ramps or perhaps its too low to jack up. I suck at reviews but wanted to share with the community

I bought a similar one, not for an oil change, but to remove a little oil because the dealership overfilled. Handy little thing.

... and with the right adapter / tight-fitting hose you can use it to bleed your clutch & brakes too.

though if you go looking for a bleeding accessory set, I'd recommend getting one with a little inline bottle so you can measure how much took out of the system. When you're done, turn the bottle over and the vacuum will empty the bottle into the main reservoir.

Thanks for this info. I bought the smaller one, the blue one at Lowe's. It holds three quarts, perfect for me. I take 3-4qts w/wo changing the filter and 1.6 quarts for a quick drain and fill on the ATF.

Do not change the oil when it is cold (too slow) or when it is too hot (collapses the container).

I had to get an adapter for the motor oil dipstick hole, and ended up calling Liquivac headquarters in Michigan. They are very nice and very helpful.

It would seem to me that frequent oil changes, with the oil extractor, is a smart maintenance plan idea with a GDI boxer engine.

I bought the oil extractor that Harbor Freight sells. Paid less than $120 for it a couple of years ago.

this is pretty impressive little pump im pretty sure id still go the quick drain valve way to make sure everything comes out the pan

For those worried about not removing all the oil just take and put 5.5 quarts of water in it and make a mark. If you pull at least that much you got everything.

question for the guys who've used this several times... when the tank gets full of old oil, how do you dispose of it? do you just take it to an autozone (or similar) and have them drain out the tank for you?

I collect mine in a 5 gallon container and take it to O'reilly.

CostLess doesn't have a recycling program. Booo.
