@Tcoat. Your evaluation of 60s/70s muscle cars hit the mark. I wasn't a die hard muscle car guy, but I could neither fit inside nor afford a legit sports car. I did have a '70 Chevelle SS. At the time I really liked it. It was a "350 hp" automatic. It was reasonably comfortable, reasonably fast and drank like Lindsay Lohan. I replaced the QJ with a Holley spreadbore and it ran a little better and the highway fuel economy went up slightly. But there was no getting around what it was. It was a rust prone elephant. To say it "handled" is a gross overstatement.

I friend of mine occasionally asks me if I wish I still had it. The answer is unequivocally NO! If someone is interested in performance vehicles, 4 or 2 wheeled, these are the "good old days." If they just want "old," well, as humfrz would probably agree, "old ain't much to write home about."

the benefit to american cars is that they tend to start every time no matter what's wrong with them.

the benefit to an rx8 is that they need a full motor rebuild every 60k miles, so they're getting rarer and rarer than any '71 every year as the rebuild costs come closer and closer to their reselling price..

I would love to have an old MOPAR as a weekend cruiser and sort of causally shop around every now and then. Then the practical facts of I have no shop or even garage and it would take up about 30% of my driveway space just to be driven a few times a year kicks in and I let the idea go for a while.

Then somebody on here brings the subject up and back to Hemmings I go!

I understand. If I were Jay Leno it would be different. I could store the things in my car palace, have a staff who would pamper them and I could go look at them and maybe even drive one occasionally. But, I am not Leno and still remember the pain in the ass maintaining the SS was - and it was a relatively "mild" muscle car (hydraulic lifters, modest cam, auto trans). A friend had a solid lifter, lumpy cam, 4 speed standard version of the car and it was like owning a war bird. Fly it for an hour, work on it for 100.

Thats too much money, something like $10k should be ok to scratch the muscle car itch. What about those full tent? You could storage the car there until the next weekend
