It was odd he would claim to do something like that when he could have just done it in an excel speedsheet.

The raw measurement is just the eye to eye of the spring. Plus the ID of the eye + x2 the thickness of the material then X 3.14. Then you add an inch for the scarf cut we have to put on the end.
It is entirely likely he can't sell that to anyone because it uses knowledge from his job... If not special knowledge/info. If it's general enough he can probably sell it, but not to the place he works unless someone discovers it independently. Super fuzzy legal area.

I was busy help with interviews, so not sure the reason... but noticed she took herself off for 2 weeks from the schedule.

Still have bitter taste in my mouth about this transfer, but trying to be optimistic about it and think and writing down all the things I can improve on that department.
Shit. Can commiserate.
Today I found out I failed an internal interview I didn't know was an interview for a lateral "opportunity" I am being pushed into, and now my boss is as lost as I am. 99% sure it's the usual communication/worldview issues (plus my social blindness) but yikes. Suddenly worried I'm about to be dumped big time. Almost don't care, except we're just back to dual income after 2.5yrs and still trying to recover. Also feeling like I'm trying to be something I'm not.
All because internal company shit I guess. We're people, not pawns on a chess board...

Oof! That doesn't sound fun. But the good news is, there have been a lot of opportunity, so you might find better job. Either staying or not, GL my friend

He can do what he wants with it, if he actually did it, as far as we are concerned. There isn't another shop in 500 miles that can do what we do. The nearest one I know of that isn't a massive company that does everything CNC is in Michigan. He is really trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. We have an excel spreadsheet that does the same thing, most of us just use a calculator or write it out.

Legally he may NOT be able to do what he wants with it, at least not without a release and some paperwork. If it's the same code that's in an excel spreadsheet you use, it could be considered IP theft. If it's just a textbook formula written in a different language, he can probably sell it, but only the implementation has value.

That said, totally there on "it doesn't solve a problem we have"... which means his implementation has zero value to the company. And he's free to use it himself if he prefers it to Excel, but can't make the company pay for it.

Since we were discussing over-engineering and that kind of sadness... This is what I've been working on, off and on for the past month while out of work.

You'll have to forgive me for leaving out the "Add New Route" screen, but it's also there and working.

The tab navigation at the bottom and the entire map view (to just show all saved routes) is something I ended up spontaneously thinking of trying today (over-engineering!! lol). Not sure how I feel about it yet. That particular map view also runs up my active memory usage 200mb or so more than other times I display the map and seems to cause some frame stutter, but I'm not sure why. So if I can't figure out that bug I'll probably not include it.

I'm chasing down bugs, refactoring really ugly/shitty code, and still trying to make things look somewhat pleasing, UI-wise.

Current name for it is "DriveR" (like Drive Recorder / Drive Route) but very tentative to change. I'm hoping maybe I can have a minimum viable product release for it in the next 2-3 weeks that I can publish to the App Store, but we'll see.

Put a big green dot in the middle if it's safe to leave the house. Done.

So far I have had the easiest jury duty. Called last weekend and no trials last week. Called last night and no trials next week. I bet they don't have enough healthy people to hold trials.
