4 Subwoofer fit?

Hello 86 members, I cant stand having no bass now that I have my FR-S!

I want to take the 4 12's from my truck and put them in my 86, maybe building a false floor? Any ideas? Never done car audio with a car only trucks

I have around 3 Grand to spend and I have 4 Sundown 12's.

Option 1) Install the 12's? (Option I prefer mostly)

Option 2) Sell the 12's and buy 4 10's, 2 custom enclosed on the passenger and driver side as well as 2 in a wall in the trunk(wouldn't mind)

Any ideas? I remember seeing a build with 2 Alpine 12's in a false floor by taking out the tire, I really like the idea as well.

Thanks,Cheers, Happy thanksgiving!

Good lord you want to put in 4 of these? You could put them in the trunk facing backward - then when you race hit the button to pop the trunk, the subs will thrust you into the lead.

Seriously, I briefly had a single Rockford 12 in a slot ported enclosure in my FR-S (borrowed my kid's sub for testing) and it was obnoxiously loud. I now have a 10 in a sealed box and it is quite enough. I'm thinking of dropping it to an 8 mounted in the cab instead of the larger one firing from the trunk.

Also, consider the weight you're thinking of adding to a car that lives on the fact that it is a featherweight.

I too have one 10" sub in a sealed box. It is MORE than enough for the car. I have the amp turned half way down, lol. Any more is just too much for how small the car is.

Go for it. I'll wait here to see the thread titled "4 subs was a bit too much" with you talking about having no more windows.

I'm sure you could get 4 subs to fit. With virtually zero trunk space left. Also, with almost no ability to balance the sub bass with the mid bass and the highs. I have a single 8 that kicks, at high volume. The air mass required for the small cabin just means that moving that much air will annoy anyone around the car, while not increasing sound quality.

I've said in other threads, that the front mid-bass drivers are more important, and I will re-iterate that here. It's a small car. Having decent mid bass drivers in the front doors, and even upgrading the rear speakers will help too. (Get something to fill in a little in 100-130Hz range, difficult in a 3 inch driver, but possible if you don't mind $250-$300 drivers).

If you squeeze those drivers in your trunk, I'll be looking over the photos and I'll probably be impressed from an install perspective. From a SQ perspective, it's way beyond overkill, pushed far into the law of diminishing returns.

If you really want a lot of bass, sell 2 or 3 of these, put 1-2 in, and take the cash to upgrade your front soundstage. Or, you could sell all 4, upgrade the front and get 1 or 2 10's. Just my humble opinion.

Thanks guys, I now laugh at myself rereading 4 12's in a FR-S haha, sorry about that.

2 10's seem like they would be fine, thanks guys. @kmbkk @ean611 @SVTSHC @husker741 @suaveflooder @bfrank1972

How are you liking that TW3?

Make your own. Prefab boxes are never as good as a box custom made to a specific subwoofer's specs.
