Best purchase in my life.

The car design is awesome, dont get me wrong. It's just the parts quality and lack of follow up with details caused frustration. And it's a new car that malfunctioned at 127km......

Hopefully i can get my car back soon. Valentines day is coming......

Thanks,

if they dont do things right this time, I will not buy another subaru again in the future.

They also told me they will replace the ECU for me but what the heck. New car needs a new ECU after one week of usage. This is a joke!

This is subaru.

Apparently this things haven't been resolved. I have the coming to a stop in neutral rpm did along with a rattle from engine trying not to stall. I took it to the dealer and they "updated the ECU" but quite honestly the car came out doing the same thing. What should i do, take it back again? It's ridiculous because they say they have to replicate it in order to do anything.. its a random thing.

Look at your state's lemon law. In Texas taking it back to the dealer works in your favor as there are minimum requirements to the quantity of visits to the dealer for the same issue in a certain period of time.

I took my car in this morning for this issue (no CEL though) and they re-flashed the ECU with an update. Will let you guys know if this continues... so far as I can tell, the engine noise characteristics have changed significantly, but I don't know if that means the idle issue has been resolved.

So I found out something interesting when I installed my new header this week. I put defoulers on BOTH of my O2 sensors during the install, thinking that it would be better to control engine check issues. WRONG!! I had check engine light, rough idle/almost stalling, slip light, etc. All of the issues discussed in this thread. So this leads me to believe that people who have no had catastrophic engine failures could try replacing their front O2 sensors and it may fix it. When I took the defouler off the first O2 sensor and placed it directly into the exhaust stream, all of my issues went away. I could be mega wrong, or I could have discovered something anomalous that not even the dealers could know about.

Nice find man, it could be the solution to all the issues that we are having.

Btw my car is still in repair for 3 weeks and still no luck.

Modern cars use the upstream O2 sensor for closed loop running. If it wasn't in the exhaust stream, the engine is trying to operate in closed loop (running with feedback from the primary O2 sensor) with the sensor not reading that's actually going on, hence the issue.

The downstream, secondary O2 sensor is used for verifying catalyst efficiency. That's the one to put a defowler/O2sim on.

It's possible, however, that you've come across the underlying cause by replicating the symptoms. If the O2 sensors are iffy, get damaged, or are particularly sensitive to burned oil, they could be sending bad information to the ECU, hence the problems and catastrophic failure.

1500 Miles. P0018 Code. Been in Subaru Dealership shop for 3 days now and they don't know how to fix it and have been awaiting word from Subaru on how to fix it. Finally got word today and was told to make some measurements. Guy doesn't know if they will send a short block, long block, or have them tear it apart. Car is bran new 2014.

Edit: Went in shop Monday, came out following Wednesday with new ECU.

My FR-S has received the following...

Short block
Manifold and catalytic converter
Hpfp rev 2

Short block
Oil pump
OTC valve
Hpfp rev 3
Other misc items

Other OTC and gear
ECU replacement

All within ~ 2500 miles, stating at 16,xxx miles

First short block replacement lasted 54 miles

Two ds taillights , one ps taillight, and both rear shocks replaced

Also car was scratch while in service for 51 days and was compensated.

Toyota/Scion and the local dealership have been terrific. However it is obviously sad to go through all of this.

Car is repaired at the moment but I'm considering arbitration.

I'd buy another frs but I'm hearing the release series and 2014 are still having issues

The issues seem less frequent in the '14s or else people are being less vocal about it. My '14 brz has been problem free thus far. *knocks on wood*
