I do agree with what Dipstik-sportech said. I've had this issue when shifting from 3rd-4th when my car was stock. With my turbo setup I have the issue between 2nd-3rd, 3rd-4th, & 4th-5th at a high RPM. I don't believe it is clutch related or shifter related (have a Kartboy Shifter). I believe it has to do with the amount of torque at the high RPM and the syncros. Possibly too much inertia for the syncros when applying the next gear. After all it is a new design with a triple cone syncro application.

Now the wait begins until the transmission gives out lol... oh well, the cost of performance, right? Or just bad (and new) design...

Just started having this issue within the last week. 6400 miles on the OD . 14 BRZ.

I get in 2-4 on shifts over 5500 and 34 just a little higher. Crunch is the best way to describe it. Street driving its fine. but if you get on it and shift, its noticeable and replicate-able.

I'm clearly not a shifter TSB candidate. So we wills see what the dealer has to say.

Redline mt90 trans oil, 75w90 fixed my third to fourth little scratchy shift. It is GL4 only, no GL5. Toyota pickup guys rave about it fixing manual transmission woes. It worked for me. It was better immediately, but I drove a 200 mile journey in one day about a week after changing it- and it is perfect now. Absolutely perfect shifts up and down (tear of joy streaming down cheek)

3rd-4th gear grind...but only near redline

Mine was checked and found to have the issue everyone please get it done under warranty while you can

Edit: my issue was a 3-4 crunch when in the high RPM

ugh, i have this problem. shifting above 7k rpm from 3rd to 4th, there's a crunch, and it happens almost every time. if i left the revs drop a little before i shift, it's fine. i guess i'll take it to the dealer.

questions for you guys who had the tranny replaced, how long did it sit at the dealer for?

I've noticed the 3rd 4th gear grind is not apparent with the Vortech kit

Edit:

It came back at my 1st track day...I guess I wasn't driving as hard on the street with the Vortech...

I did a track day today and the 3-4 crunch is definitely related to high RPMs. I'd get it up shifting from 3-4 when powering out of turns.

Has anyone noticed this in the higher gears? I don't have any problems 1-4 but if i shift into 5th at high rpm I'll get a crunch.

if I redline it in 4th and shift aggressive to 5th I get the grind occasionally, but it's not EVERY time or it will be difficult to shift it into 5th

It happens to me almost a every time I shift into 5th at a high rpm, it could even be in a highway merging situation where 2-3 will be aggressive to get up to speed and once at traffic speed throwing it into 5th before the rpms drop it'll crunch.

I had the same problems on the track, but I changed the solid engine mount and no more grinding again.
