Thinking about it, I think the SD card was actually holding the map data...I not sure if ic an be used for holding media.

I can confirm this. The SD card was labeled something along the lines of "NAV map data v.xx.xx"

And the interface is pretty nice...I hate having to reach over and do the touch screen thing but its very close to the driver and just above the stick...it will just take some time to learn where all the touch screen buttons are to keep from driving the thing into the woods...wait that's what I do with my golf balls
lol

It's funny you say the TSX sounds bad, I have a few friends who own one, or know someone who does and say that "the audio is great". I've driven one before and I was NOT impressed...it didn't sound much different than a civic in all honesty. Goes to show you need to hear things for yourself to judge. Now the TL, that's probably a different story.

All subjective as I said...it may depend on year too...my TSX is a 2004...with 200K on it!...my daughter drives it now...the stereo still sucks. but she doesn't know the diff

Ok, now that would be lame. I really hope that's not only for nav map data...map data plus media would make sense. Otherwise, retarded.

Where else did you want it to hold NAV data? As far as I know it's not a HDD/Flash based system and there's no second optical drive to contain the map data.

I'd prefer it to be flash based and then upgraded through USB.. but.. I'm guessing it's going to be on the SD card. It may be possible to remove that SD card if you don't need NAV and put a SD card with media in it though.

Only if we had the owners manual somewhere we could find out.. oh wait.. I'm too lazy to look.

I'm just hoping it will work like my Evoque's (among many other vehicles) which allows me to use a flash drive in the USB slot so I don't have to leave my iPod out in the open (I just know I'll forget it in the car regularly).

Could've sworn I read it was from Pioneer when the 2012 WRXs were being released. Possible that they switched brands.

I agree it'd be my preference, but eclipse/fujitsu ten is usually ass backwards so I wouldn't expect that out of them anyways. On the flip side they've made some great sounding decks before....

I also hope the SD card can be used for multimedia and not solely NAV data. IMO, Nav is slow and redundant compared to a modern smartphone, so I'd rather use it for an SDXC jammed with MP3's. Much cleaner than a USB stick hanging out of the dash, let alone an obnoxious USB cable going all about the cabin.

I wish the SoA Rep wasn't so stingy with the keys during my dealership visit, otherwise I would've checked the SD reader functionality.

I saw it today and I'm wondering where they're going to put the subwoofer. There are some photos/measurements of the BRZ trunk, stereo UI, and (for reference) an Impreza sub at http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4292

That's not the ideal amp for those speakers, so you're gonna have to choose if you want to overpower or underpower them.

I don't know WTF that 5.4 minimum ohms thing is...according to the specs online they are 8ohm speakers, so they should be, well, 8ohm speakers. Sometimes speakers won't test for the exact impedance they claim to be (, but I've never seen a speaker deviate from its rated impedance by more than about 0.3ohms...

i really doubt the stereo will be anything to write home about but nice that its at least a decent looking unit. as for sound output, i expect basics... nothing bose like.
