Perrin oil cooler problem

Having a problem with the install. I can't seem to get the hoses positioned without a kink in one place or other. I can't get the kinks out without rotating the sandwich plate where it blocks the oil filler cap. I can get the kinks to a minimum, but I don't think I want any restriction at all on those. I've thought about removing the windshield washer reservoir because I rarely use it, but not sure that'll fix the problem.

Not sure if the Perrin hoses will clear with the washer bottle removed BUT you can really replace the bottle with a "bag" for like $20. I got mine on eBay as a one-size-fits-all washer pouch for hot rods. Ziptied it to the crash bar

Tech support thinks I got the wrong hose. They're sending me another. I might have been able to make it work, but that hose had been kinked several times and I didn't trust it.

Had to put the whole car back together. Wow.

Yeah I wouldn’t risk affecting oil pressure

Absolutely, and I also jumped the gun by not yet having a pressure and temperature gauge installed first. Will do that now and then the cooler. To anyone planning this, I recommend you have an AN wrench for the aluminum fittings. You could get by without one, but some of those fittings are too stiff to turn by hand, at least for me. It would be very easy to cross thread one. I'm also going to make a steel plate to go under the plastic cowl where the radiator mounts.

Yeah, I guess. But it would have been a lot more fun slapping it back together if I had been able to finish the job. At least it was OJT. First time I've pulled the bumper so it'll go faster next time. I had to put it back on alone, so I put lots of protective tape on the fenders so the tips of the bumper wouldn't scratch. That turned out to be a good plan. I could concentrate on centering the thing in front without worrying about scratching anything.

Another word of caution for potential installers: I knew it took a 27mm socket to tighten the nut holding down the sandwich plate. I had one, but it was an impact one and the outer rim was too thick to get down the side of the housing without hitting an extrusion. I would have had to take an Uber to get a regular one if I had gone on with the install. The perils of dismantling your DD.

Even my regular one didn’t fit. I had to take an extra socket to a machine shop and have them turn it on a lathe to thin out the wall.

Also if you plan to track it, take appropriate wrenches to tighten down the fittings. I didn’t have any leaks on the street, but got a small leak at the track. No problem, just needed to tighten down one of the fittings at the sandwich plate but I’m glad I had my 1” wrench with me or I would have lost a session or two.
