Decent game although it is definitely suffering from being a port. Controls are inconsistent and in a lot of scenarios it feels more like a story where you are told to push a button occasionally just so it feels interactive.

I'm early in the game though.

My wife installed and is playing Helldivers 2. The bad news is now I gotta look up the security concerns. The good news is if I clear it then I can play too. Looks fun.

Speaking of that, apparently there were hacks with Apex Legends and people are worried it was a hack into EAC. Which could be bad as that covers a lot of games, many of which I have.

I think the developers, which by the way have been more than active with the community, addressed the security concerns on steam.

Given how volatile the PC community can be regarding these kind of topics, if it was that serious, it would've been a good enough reason for a mass boycott early on, which hasn't happened yet. Last article regarding that was about a month ago.

Oh, I'm not concerned about the devs, they have money, reputation, and freedom on the line, plus you don't get into game development because you like stealing their personal information of players. I'm concerned that it's another means of accessing the machine that some bad actor could exploit. Kernel level access means anything running there can bypass antivirus software so I don't have a reliable means of keeping tabs on it is the main problem. It is a bit excessive for a PVE game IMO.

I also WFH so having compromised machines on my home network is a headache I don't want to deal with lol. Maybe I should make subnets...

Unfortunately, many of the big ones are kernel level which is spooky.

Guys.

Virtually firing an entire box of ammunition from an LMG on full auto into a charging swarm of giant bugs while my character shouts "FREEEEEDOOOOOOOOOOM!" is probably one of the most cathartic activities I've done this year.

VLAN is the answer if your equipment supports it. Well... Also requires firewall setup to be right, as not everyone defaults to block. Subnets alone may not do the trick.

Yeah, I haven't looked at network configs in years. I think vlans are supported.

Oh yeah, that would be very appropriate.

So, I'm a bit of a synthwave/synthpop aficionado, and discovered this gem. Thought it was rather relevant given the game on topic
