I have no clue... well I can guess what's gonna happen, but it's not official from Toyota/Subaru.

Lack of passion doesn't mean, there isn't a greedy ppl who wants some honey out of this car. Sound mean to say it, but hearing some of the back end stuff makes me sad. This is what happens when passionate staffs get pushed & shoved around. Higher up greedy ppl put "Yes sir" staffs to work on it instead of passionate staffs. Giving some of the engineers who kept that passion for this gen gets some props, cuz they really did work hard to make pointless shit out of this car much as they can. Early last yr info I heard was totally nightmare... but they def turn things around.

So this new BRZ and the eventual new 86 are the unwanted children of an unhappy marriage? Not good! Let’s hope the kids turn out alright in spite of the parents!
86/BRZ have been pushed around by both parents. BRZ have always been unwanted from Subaru. While Toyota was advertising 86 like mad crazy... But you know one yr Subaru start pushing BRZ more and more, while Toyota kinda fade away? Yeah... wonder why coughnextgenteamdecidedcough

Hopefully next gen will see some stage... but only time will tell.

Fun fact, that's a higher rpm than max torque on the gen1. The difference is this one is flat to 7krpm.

This is a compromise sacrificing some top end power for the flat torque I think.

From the gauge cluster dyno chart, it looks like torque drops a little from the 3700 peak to redline (with small dip in the middle). Peak HP yields a 171.1 ftlb, vs. 184 ftlb at the torque peak.
Current gen 2017+ has 156 ftlb at peak torque and 153.8 ftlb at peak HP, albeit in a much narrower powerband.

I'll reserve judgement until I drove it, but I feel like they went with the spirit of the times - more low end torque, less top end. It's a wonder they kept the high revs at all, though. Hopefully the top end will still be exciting.

Ah, but it has more low-end torque *and* more top end! I'm very encouraged that peak power is still at 7000rpm, and that redline is still 7400, maybe 7500.

First post this thread.
"Compression ratio 13.5:1"
That is straigt off the Subaru press release

The new 2.4 will probably demand premium, same as the current engine, so somewhat less of a challenge.
Same fuel system and even higher compression so a safe bet it needs premium.
