What wheel and tire size do you guys run?

Hey everyone !
New to the car scene so first time on the forums.
I bought a new Stock 2020 Subaru BRZ around March and finally put 6k miles on it. So thinking of starting to do my first mods.
I know I want to put a Rally Backer V2 widebody kit on it with a Greddy evo gt exhaust. However , I’m having trouble finding out what wheel/tire size would go well with it for more grip.
I definitely don’t want any cambers as I don’t like the look of it.
Otherwise id love to hear some ideas / pictures!
Thanks again and look forward to driving with guys in my area soon! (DC area)

I'm trusting your purpose for a widebody kit is for pure aesthetics and not increasing grip. Personally, I would start upgrading the current tires, here are some of the most popular ones:

Firestone Firehawk Indy 500’s
Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R
Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S
Hankook Ventus RS4

I'm sure someone will reply to this thread with a link for another thread that went sideways arguing about widebody kits and huge tires. I'm not trying to pick on you, but welcome to the car scene, and forums, you'll get responses all over the spectrum.

Finally, about the Evo GT exhaust, check locally about how law enforcement feels about loud exhausts, probably save you some money down the road. It's a cool catback, but consider a more conservative approach.

Frequently the answers will leave a noob more confused than when they started!

Yeah, nothing like 10" tires and a widebody on a NA twin pushing 175HP.
They really do look cool though, and you can make them sound fast.

If you want more grip, the first place to look is getting the right specific tire make/model. The next place to look is *more front camber*. -1.5 degrees for a street-only ride will significantly improve front grip and not look obviously "cambered". The next place to look is suspension setup. Last would be outright tire size. 225/45-17 on 17x8 or 245/40-17 on 17x9 +40ish offset are your best bets, neither requires a widebody kit...

If you are serious about going widebody, price all of that out first. Unless you have money to burn buying multiple sets of wheels/tires.

You will need custom wheels for best fitment or much wider wheels than what fits the car now.

10k is a easy number for kit, wheels/tires, suspension, paint.

Haha yes the wide body is purely aesthetic nothing to do with more grip .
And thanks for the info I’ll look into it.

Yes definitely only street riding - I use this car for work/ daily driving . Used to drive only trucks so don’t know much appart from what I’ve learned over the last couple months.
Any idea on what’s the good suspension setups you know about I can look at ? I’ll look at those tire numbers you gave - the widebody kit is mostly just cause I love the look . Has nothing to due with anything else .

Yeah that’s what I’m trying to do now. To get an idea of pricing before I start doing everything .
But okay good to know .

First of all, dont ask questions regarding widebody here on the forum. the forum community is performance driving oriented and or daily/function driving oriented. you need to join the "widebody 86's" page on facebook and ask questions there. i dont blame the forum community, they have seen so many of us idiots come and go, they dont waste their time offering advice anymore.

One idiots advice to another:
the gold standard for widebody spec wheels is 9.5 fronts and 11 rears. you do not want more that 9.5 in the front because those wheels have to turn back and forth inside the wheel well, and the larger the front wheel, the harder it becomes to fit. Its too much weight up front and drives with a heavy steering feel.

dont knock buying used wheels, on the fb marketplace there are a handful available at any given time. just post a WTB ad and they come out of the woodwork

there are several tried and true combinations people run, to the point that the widebody community is flooded with them.

Forgestar F14 18x9.5-25 // 18x11-6 rear w 25mm spacer
Cosmis Racing 18x9.5+10 w 25mm spacer // 18x11+8 w 50mm spacer
Kansei KNP 18x9.5+22 w 50mm spacer // 18x10.5+12 w 50mm spacer

like i said, there are a handful of these setups for sale with tires at any given moment on facebook for about $1,000 - $1,500 just post a WTB ad, everyone is constantly trying to upgrade and always looking to sell their old.

here is my car

Stock suspension is OK, but presumably you'll want to lower the car. Swift BRZ Sport (somewhat stiffer than stock) or Spec-R (a bit more stifferer than stock) will lower the car about 1.25", which for me is totally streetable.

You could keep stock struts/shocks, or consider going to something like Bilstein B6 or B8. Much better ride, with better-controlled low-speed damping for stiffer springs as well.

Lowering will increase negative camber in back, in my case to about -2.8 degrees. If that's too much for you, you could get adjustable lower control arms or offset control arm bushings.

Camber bolts could I think get you to -1.5 degrees up front which again IMO is desirable even for street only, and doesn't look ridic.

FWIW here's my car lowered 1.25" with -3.4 front and -2.8 rear camber:

Car looks great!
Should note that if he's running way less camber than you, he'll probably want/need wheels with somewhat higher offsets...

I don't want to dissuade you from going widebody; they look awesome when they're done right, but I do suggest that you look into what it takes to do it right. You can't just bolt on wider fenders or flares and be done. You need to cut out the existing fender to give you clearance for the wider wheels you'll want to be running. It's a lot of custom work that can't be reversed (at least not without an equal amount of custom work later).
