i like it without the humps on the fenders. it looks lower and sleeker like the original FT 86 concept.

It might be just a coincidence in the aligned pictures, but it looks that the shark fin is placed in newer car a few centimeters back. This means that it is placed a bit lower cause of the rear incline and hence the 0.4" lower height. If this is really the case, then it would be the most lame marketing focused "improvement".

nikitopo, while I find the alignment of hard points interesting visually, your negative take on the lowered overall height is a very strong reason that YOU should not consider buying one. Imagine, blaming it on misleading marketing. lol
The car IS lower, that has nothing to do with marketing and everything to do with how high the garage door needs to be in order to not hit the highest point.
No offense, but stick to math if thats your forte. Marketing not so much.

WTF...
Render of the '22 is *clearly* at a MUCH higher ride height (at least at the front) than we've seen in pics of the actual car. I mean it bears no resemblance to actual ride heights we're seeing.
Current-gen render looks to be LOWER vs. actual!
Just judging from pics, I *knew* I'd have to lower it if/when I bought a current-gen. Similarly judging from pics of the new car, maybe not, or at least won't have to lower it as much...

Published dimensional data isn't "marketing". They do claim that the center of gravity is lower for the new car. My guess, again, is that they just lowered the car by around 0.4".

It's a fair critique. If the sole reason for the car being .4" lower is because the shark fin moved or is shorter, then that would be genuinely silly (but not especially surprising) marketing speak.

The OP is not saying that's where they found the .4", just that it's a possibility.

Honestly, even I'm not quite that cynical though. I don't think height is measured that way. I don't think they included the original rubber antenna in the 1st gen's official height measurement either.

That being said, that might be noticeable in one big way - I'm already brushing the ceiling in my helmet. Hopefully the half inch isn't lost inside the cabin.

That really seems the to drive home how concepts and production models are heavily neutered by regulations. We could of had an S2000 hood line but even an S2000 can't have that hood line anymore.

Around the time of Subaru’s global reveal event a few publications claimed more headroom compared to the old one, despite the lower height.

Now, if it only had a rear transmission and a F/R weight distribution of 45/55 like my brother in law's Ferrari Portofino it would be worth slapping a turbo/blower on that 2.4L engine.

Joking aside, on city streets with a chunk more HP than stock you almost need to tub out the rear and put 10'W wheels to get it down. Or a Rocket Bunny, if that's your thing.

Seat could be mounted lower and thinner. Profile view of the greenhouse looks pretty much the same between the two.
