I think one thing the 86 has over the Supra is interior design. The 86 interior doesn't look like any other Toyota or Subaru interior, which is a win; because as a driver, that's where you spend 100% of your time. The exterior is for other people to look at.

the car's do not compete against each other directly, and they're different cars.
One's a ground up sports car (supra), the other is a hotted up compact car (M2).

Its the same thing as why get an 86 when you can get a faster more comfortable hot hatch for maybe less?

even if the ultimate capabilities will be greater for one over the other the driving experience will be a different.
This is 100% me. Under the skin the Supra is almost entirely a BMW. If I'm shopping for a RWD coupe with a high level of performance in the $45-60k range, I'm looking at both the Supra and the M2. And the fact that I'd want a manual transmission ends the comparison right there for me. Both BMWs, and one is available with row your own...unless you're in love with the looks of the Supra, no point in further consideration.

The only saving grace I see about the Supra over the M2 is that Toyota was probably obsessed with reliability. The twins are a very solid platform, but I personally think that wouldn't have been the case if Subaru developed the car on its own. Toyota seems to have been very cautious with the roll out of the Supra and I bet it's because they are trying to make it as fine tuned as possible. That's my hope anyways.

Some might already know from social media, but Guff was lucky enough to go, so he’ll be uploading a vid of new Supra review soon.

Long story short, I wasn’t invited to Supra event, but Tada-san call Toyota US to bring me to the event.

I’ll be posting the review some time next week. I’m not gonna rush to post the review. I’m not trying to get many click or anything & want to make sure I don’t rush it out to miss or misinform anyone.

The tacho red line on the supra seems a bit lower than on the 86 , so less winding it out between gear changes = less fun.
The 86 tacho red line is also lower than the previous VVTLI celica.
So is history showing lower and lower rpm on sports cars?
