Also, for those wondering about it. The AR1s are simply too heavy for a low powered car. Corner and exit speed was better than the A052, but down the straigh you bled time like crazy. Check this images (green speed number is AR1s, pink is yoko). So dont be surprised if someone else tells you he is faster on AR1s, if the power is not an issue, they might very well be faster. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Icecreamtruk; 03-13-2021 at 09:44 PM. |

FYI for anyone on the fence about ordering: Tirerack just pushed the expected availability date for my 660s from March 20th to April ~25th. I placed the original order on March 5th. Figured I'd be good for my late April plans. I'll have the Yokohama rubber in time for the start of autocross for us in Western NY. My May track date? Still TBD depending on how firm that April ETA for the Falkens is.

I had that thought-good to know I wasn't too crazy for considering it. With the A052s arriving next week, I'm good for now. Might miss out on that alternative warehouse idea if I wait and supply is even worse in 4 weeks, but that HPDE isn't until middle of May.

Shipping for the Falkens is now 5/1. Just changed my order to the Yokahame Ao52. Was hoping to get in on the cheap but I have a track day and two day event before than,so paying the extra $60 per tire. Could have gone with the rivals but wanted to try something else, plus 3# lighter per corner

Mid-year update on my A052 choice. Purchase back in March/April and I've done 13 autocross events with 88 total runs. 2017 BRZ, 225/45/17, OEM allowed camber bolts with 1.3* camber in front, zero toe all around.
The tires are heavily worn on the outsides to the point you can barely see the tread. Not really surprising. They're due to be flipped to get through 12 events (~78 runs), although I'm not sure they'll make it. Beyond the outer edges, the middle is right at the wear bars. RE-71Rs, in 3 sets, I never had to flip, and I took two sets to 190-200 runs. Most surprising is on one tire the outside is so worn or heat cycled it's actually hard or 'burned'. It's weird and only on the edge. Overall, I'm on the fence with the Yoks. Like others that have tried them in our region the consensus is "they're not he right tire for the car" when referring to street class, low camber cars. They've laid down some good times here and there. Other time like now in June/July, they're overheated and my final 3 runs are greasy - even with spraying them between runs. I think that the RT660's might be better for an all around tire that's going to get you through 20+ events, lower camber car, and deal with temps from 50-90 degrees. I'll probably choose these next year and see how they compare. Now, if you're in STX with coilovers and -4* camber, I do think the Yoks would be the better choice. Might have to sacrifice a bit on super hot days still though.

I am going to be doing my first track day with my RE71rs that I got off Tire Rack on Close out for 125$ a tire 235-45-17. Only comparison I have are with my SX2's. Snice its a new track run 2 sessions with SX2's to learn the track and switch to the sticky stuff and see what improvements I get.

Re-71 vs Falken RT660
Quote:
I have 3 days on my RT660's and they look like shit and I have already flipped them once. I am thinking 5-6 max. 80-85f ambient when I ran mine. -3.6F, -2.5R camber with zero toe. This is my left front which saw one day on the right side, and the last two on the left all run on CCW tracks. The funny inner wear was from running too low of pressure during a couple sessions I believe. ![]() The 660 is very condition sensitive. I had a day where 37 hot felt great. Next, 37 hot was too much and 33 hot was the um, hotness. Then 33 hot wasn't enough and had to go back to 37. It is really annoying, seems you are constantly chasing pressures with this tire. The sidewalls are really stiff and you can run a pretty wide range of pressures, which is good because you need to. They also fall off a cliff after about 2-3 hot laps, the window they are at their best is just really small. Out lap, good, good, .25-.5 sec slower, .75-1+ second slower over a lap just under 2 min. There also seems to be an issue with the tread belt on the 660. I have two tires with this line on them. It isn't deep and is wearing away. The guy next to me in a golf R had 660's and his went all the way to the cord and Tire Rack replaced it. ![]() Edit: Apparently this is an issue. I found a bunch of other info on this searching online. From S2K forum. Quote:

^ Did you take tire temps to arrive at those pressures?

No, I was just going by feel. I broke my temp probe and haven't bought a new one. There were 4 of us running these chasing the same issues.

Those tires look about how I'd expect them to look.
