Changing Oil Brands and Winter
Hello,
Car noob here. I've been running Motul oil for the last 3 changes but plan on going to a subaru dealer to change it back to just the subaru provided oil. My original garage is too far away now and theres no one around my area that provides motul. Is it okay to mix oil brands and is there such a thing as winter/cold weather ready oil?? Thanks |

No such thing as winter oil. The 0 in 0w20 is the cold temperature viscosity, so once you are running 0W20, you are good to go.
No issues with changing to a new brand. The amount of left-over oil is negligible and even if it weren't, like say you were just adding a liter, it wouldn't matter anyway. |

Just called Subaru Canada and customer service lady said I shouldn't mix oil brands as I might need a engine flush if I do it too often? True or false?

And mixing oil is bad because you don't know the chemical reaction of mixing additives.

OP, don't listen to Fastbrz, he doesn't know what he's talking about. 0W-20 is perfect for this engine, especially in Canada.
Precision Tuning in Vaughan carries Motul 0W-20 if you want to keep using it. They'll also do an oil change for you if you provide the filter. You do not need an engine flush. Just drain old oil, add new one, change oil filter, and you're good to go. |

If you are talking about a car that sees the track, then a thicker oil might be warranted along with an oil cooler. I have been following that thread since I do track my car and have been considering an oil cooler.
But I don't believe that is what the OP's concern is. If you are just driving around normally 0W20 is fine. |
