Maybe they are positioning the Civic to eventually replace the Accord as their one and only ICE sedan while they shift the accord to full EV or something else entirely like an Outback competitor that is basically a high-riding wagon/CUV thing.

That's my thought.

Honda: Builds boring 9th gen Civic
Public: eww this sucks
Honda: Builds interesting 10th gen Civic - now featuring Angles and Corners!
Public: that's atrocious, Transformers was cool last decade
Honda: Builds boring subtle 11th gen Civic - now featuring design from the car literally nobody complains about!
Public: no not like that

Honda:

At this point just assume all the odd gen Civics suck and the even ones are good. Only gens that don't meet this are 2nd and 5th.

^Their designs suck. Bland is fine. Chunky proportions and sloppy styling details are not.

This isn't bland. It's cheap and ill conceived.

What 4 door on sale today under $30k meets your supposedly realistic standards?

This is why big companies should not listen to the vocal minority. If you were to ask me, the 10th gen brought life back to the Honda brand and now they are trying to do away with it by making it look like everything else.

I think the Accord is one of the best looking economy midsize sedans in a long time. It is very Mercedes'ish with the fastback hood. 6speed 2.0T from the CTR detuned is nice too. If I was in the market for such a sized vehicle then it would be high in my list, but it isn't even close, so it is just a car I would recommend. The Civic looks good overall, especially if it is stealing lines from the Accord.

The accords front end is soooo much better than the 11th gen civic. The lines that it steals from the accord are rather unflattering, and make it look longer than it is. The civic should be somewhat of a compact car, not a lower trim Accord.

This civic won't be popular with young buyers imo, which is arguably one of the more important market segments. Young people will buy even more Kia/Hyundai at this rate.

That's easy. The Mazda 3. Heck the Corolla looks better than this. Hyundai Elantra as well. So does the Impreza.
