2020 tS pricing (MD)

Hey all,

Just learned about this forum from reddit after doing some research on the 2020 BRZ.

I was wondering at what point does the tS pricing make sense over negotiating a 2020 Limited w/ PP?

I negotiated a 2020 BRZ tS (add-on's already on it was the STI short throw shifter and rear bumper applique) from $32,995 down to $30,360 and walked. They came back with a last attempt offer of $29,930... however, that is the MSRP of the Limited w/ PP... why pay up almost 3K for the STI rims and better tires? (only considerable difference between limited w/ PP and tS... in my eyes).

I am still personally holding out for the hopeful 2021 BRZ w/ the 2.4L or turbo... all of the people I know and all the reviews say the 2.0L NA engine will get boring after the first few months.

Then buy the Limited. Not really sure how it cost you more when almost the same price?
Don't hold your breath on a 2.4 liter no matter what the Reddit masterminds say.

Oh what I was saying is I got the MSRP tS down from 32,995 to 29,930. The Limited with the PP MSRP is 29,995 (if you discount freight from the equation)... so I got the tS down to what the Limited MSRP's for and what I am asking is, is the tS at any price point above a negotiated price on a Limited (considering the tires and rims are not worth 3K) worth it?

I feel like I could negotiate a 2020 Limited w/ PP in/around the 26-27K range.. netting me 2-3K savings over what I negotiated the current tS for.

They may not have as much room to play on a LTD so just because you could talk the tS down that low it doesn't mean you can with a LTD as well.. There is not a huge amount of mark up on these cars. I would see what deal you could get on one before making up your mind.

Would you say $29,930 is a good, great, or a steal of a deal? (for a 2020 tS)

Unfortunately, BRZ's in my area in MD are fairly rare without having them brought in... so it feels like a rock and a hard place.

Do I wait for the 2021 myth or do I just say take the tS and work the number as far down as possible and just live with the engine haha.

A quick look says that anything under about $30K is a great deal in your region.

There are a pile of rumours about the 2021 and very little real info. Most of the rumours were generated by a couple of click bait web sites and spread from there. I am in the camp that the next gen will not be much more powerful and very likely much heavier since it will go for mainstream sales. I believe that so strongly that I am selling my 14 and getting a 2020 while they are still the car that they are. I think you will find that the "lack of power" is not nearly as bad as many would have you think. If after a couple of years you do get bored you can always mod for more power.

The tS has some bespoke suspension (springs, dampeners, flexible v-bars, and flexible draw stiffeners) in addition to the 18x7.5 wheels with Pilot Sport 4’s. So yes, easily 3K worth in parts. In addition to the different styling cues inside and out.

The original tS was a much better deal with the STI Lip Kit and STI Carbon Wing.

What do you plan on doing with the car? If you don’t plan on tracking/autoXing it, the tS is overkill, and the performance pack as well. The car doesn’t NEED Brembos for daily driving. You’ll often see many people with the stock brake setup on track.

If you also plan on changing much of the car, the 2020 tS isn’t entirely worth it...but knowing your plans would help you come to a decision.

i would buy a used brz with 35k miles for fifteen grand. i almost feel bad for people that spend 30 thousand dollars on a bone stock brz. unpopular opinion, so ill see myself out. welcome to the club.

edit: i didnt read tcoats post before writing this, and the arguement above, of getting a final edition before the car potentially loses everything great about it, is a true honest opinion from someone who really appreciated this platform. i appreciate that mindset.

While I understand from the value/performance view points... I would look to keep this car pristine and into the abyss. Specs/performance view while keeping it under $35K is the goal... which is why I have been waiting for a 2.4L or a turbo since 2014 haha.

I agree, anything below 30K is a great deal in MD. At the financing table I saw the build order at dealer cost. At your price, there wasn't much room left to negotiate.

For a good deal, I usually measure if you can walk out the door tax, tags, and title around MSRP you negotiated well. I think your sales tax is around 5.5% so by my scale you have a great deal.

Agreed, I dont discount that it is a great deal.

However, compared to competition (mustang ecoboost, etc) isnt the BRZ tS in general overpriced for what it is NA 4 cyl 2.0L? Especially how fast it depreciates historically?

I made a best and final offer after they rejected my $29K counter offer... here is hoping haha.

I am prematurely excited and already looking to swap out the summer tires to the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 or the Pilot Sport A/S 3+... hope this research isn't for nothing lol.

Well, that wasn't your original question. Depreciation isn't a concern for me because I plan on dying in it or with it. You can't compare this platform to a Mustang - they aren't even in the same car class.

If it helps, I had the opposite problem. My dilemma was trying to talk myself out of buying this car... and I lost.

There is an old saying - if you have to ask how much it costs... you can't afford it. That applies here.

I understand the viewpoint haha been waiting for this car since 2014. I extended a last ditch offer which tries to meet in the middle but won't find out till tomorrow morning as I called the sales guy's cell as he was otw home.

Looks like you are in PA - did you stick with the stock 4S summer tires on your tS or did you swap out to something like the Conti Extreme Contact or the Mich A/S 3+? if I snag the tS, I think I would swap out to an ultra high performance AS and just sell the summer 4S that come on the tS.
