Port & Polishing Turbos

Hey guys, so thoughts on porting and polishing turbos? The SBD kits I have on order comes with the mitsubishi 20g turbo as you probably know.
I do know you need to port the wastegate to prevent boost creep, however since it will be at the shop getting that done should I bother with a full port and polish? I think it is a waste on this turbo but what are your thoughts??

In for answers as well. I don't plan on upgrading the turbo (easy to say right now) but it won't be in the car for a while anyway.

You planning on porting your wastegate too or you going to just deal with the boost creep?

Block off the internal gate + add Tial 38-44 mm external gate = no more creep

It will be cheaper to port it out to be honest lol. Its like $100/hour for turbo work at the local turbo shop

So no disassembly of turbo for this? I've got 3 turbos at home cause it's always proven cheaper to replace than repair... BB turbo especially.

Another plus besides elimnating creep, is allowing for more accurate boost control and no spiking when going external gate

I'm just here for my own mental notes at this point, not trying to perpetuate the propaganda lol

I think its got to be disassembled (maybe not though as the wastegate just dumps to the down pipe so no worries about metal shavings), but its a new turbo and off the car already so I don't think its anything I cant handle. Worst case I can pay the shop to just take it apart if need be.

External wastegates do have there pros haha.

Yeah really excited to get this thing in and get to work. My VW daily has been in the shop for over two weeks though so I'm not sure what's going to happen.

Haha. Btw, if you're installing yourself, if you haven't done the oil pan before, be careful not to gouge your upper oil pan assembly when you remove the lower pan, and get a big ass can of acetone to soften the gasket.
