I think I shared these in a previous post about your oldest items you still use...This is a Krieghoff 16ga Superpose (the name it's inventor John Moses Browning gave the action otherwise known as Over and Under)...Proof-house marks (if I read them right) show August of 1935...just turned Eighty Five...notice the thickness of the trigger guard made out of Cape Buffalo horn...this is so that in subfreezing weather your warm moist trigger finger you just took out of your glove will not freeze to a metal trigger guard. The action is made from Duralumin (early name of hardened Aluminum used in aircraft) and it weighs 5lbs and 11oz. NOT my choice for Dove hunting where I'll go thru a box of shells, but perfect for humping over hills looking for Chukar an long walks in search of Psychedelic chickens...

Where in Kanada can you find 400 yards with no wind for 22 rimfire ? Even at 200 yds., in ISU and bench guns, a mouse fart throws off my rim thickness and weight sorted Olympic quality 22 fodder from bughole to scattergun groups ! |

Best I ever did was shoot flies with Lapua L.V. 22 at 200 yds. A minimum amount of P on a white paper attracts the flies. Surprisingly, I can see the bullet arcing against the white background and while the flies often move out of the way, many don't. Hot days are best. Very satisfying to keep a tiny target single shot 22cal. groups with smeared flies legs around the single hole ! |

EDC 19 finally finished with a Zev slide and RMR. Had been putting it off for a good year but finally decided to just get it done.
Waiting for Surefire X300 to come in and replace the old TLR1 light. And the 300blk gun is underway. Should have pretty much everything within the next week or two except for the light and optic. Then I can start getting my car finished lol

I suspect you used fly paper, so the flies couldn't move. |

OK, I just have to tell a shooting story. Back on the farm, when I was about 14 years old, I ran a trap line along a creek that ran through our farm. Every morning before I went to school, after feeding and watering the livestock back in that barn you can see in the attached picture, I would check my trap line along that creek.
Most mornings I would see a fox along that creek trying to get a muskrat in one of my traps. I couldn't get close enough with my .22 single shot, bolt action rifle to get a shot at the fox. So, I placed a bale of straw on the higher bank of the creek, knowing that foxes liked to get up on something high to look for pray. Then I placed a 5 gallon bucket full of water up on the bale of straw. Then, I placed a small workshop bench at the edge of out barnyard with a clear view of that bale of straw. I drug out my great grandfathers old Army rifle (from the Spanish American War - I think) which was a Springfield 1873 and placed the front part of the rifle in a vice and the rear wedged in between two sandbags. I then loaded that puppy with a .45-70 Government round and proceeded to zero in on that 5 gal bucket of water, sitting on top of the bale of straw, at a distance of about 500 yards. After several rounds I finally got the elevation and windage set to where I could hit the bucket of water. Now came time the next morning, I got up extra early, went out to my bench rest, carefully uncovered my weapon, loaded and cocked it and waited for the fox. After the third morning, I squeezed off a round that nailed the fox broadside. On the way up the trap line I found what was left of the fox (yep, that .45-70 round didn't leave much). I cut the feet off of what was left of the fox. Why did I do that? Because the county would pay a $4.00 bounty for 4 fox feet. That equated to 5 hours work in a hot hay field baling hay ..... and was much more fun. THE END |
