That stupid oil filter dribble tray
Always hated the ridiculous engineering compromise of having to add an extra seal via an extra spacer if we wanted an oil cooler sandwich plate on our engine.
Bit the bullet and cut away enough of the lip so that the sandwich plate can now sit where it is supposed to.... lower, more compact and making way more sense. |

Cutting into the engine block, adventurous.
The cutout is only needed to fit the hoses? The rest of the sandwich plate clears the lip? |

Interesting. I had the supports bend/crack on my spacer at the end of the season during a retorque. Thankfully, it was replaced under warranty, but I had to remove the system in order to continue driving the car for winter until the replacement came.
This would eliminate that issue.. I'd like to see it all put back together when you have that done. EDIT: Do you need a different length thread adapter though?

Great minds think alike! I did the same only I had a square Mishimoto plate so had to cut a little more out. If you zoom in you can see it. I agree with the adapter, spacer then filter it stood up to tall.

No, Tuned and installed flex fuel at 3k miles. Turbo installed at 5k miles. Clutch lasted for a year after turbo install. It was when I replaced the tires the clutch did not have the holding power.

It still has a slight lip, maybe 3-4 mm, to keep its strength and also still catch some dribble. If the sandwich and spacer use the same (1) centre bolt you will have to change it for a smaller one. They are very easy to find at parts stores, the thread is M20 1.5 and the normal (single) sandwich plate lenght (thicknesss) is fairly consistent across most Japanese cars |

No its usually the complete hose mounting/thermostat etc area that fouls the lip, usually about a 1/3 of the sandwich plate.
