From the sounds of things

Get yourself a helmet for Christmas and get out to the track. If you drive for a living then I have to question your intelligence. Why would you do anything to jeopardize your livelihood? Anyway get through this and try to make better choices as to when you are going to LET R Rip!!!!

Good luck.

OP, i want to really show you my sympathy and voice something nice but god damn you're a terrible driver and owner.

I can't believe you didn't learn the first time, holy sh*t.
Best thing that could happen is this guy losing his licence. Wrecked one car driving carelessly, and learned absolutely nothing.

The first accident he blamed the road, the traction and probably the tree. Now he gets caught going 50km over the speed limit and it's the speeding laws that are to blame.

was reading this on RS and dude we live in one of the most anal places for speeding so you had it coming... I've been impounded as well so I do know the feel.

However I was going to say how much longer until you can get your full licenses? If its not too long you can dispute cause it takes awhile before it will go through the system in which case if you have a full class 5 by then you won't be losing it

yes except that your opinion is illegal

and you got caught and fined for expressing it.

Here in Ontario, speeding above 50km/h gets your licence suspended, car impounded, and a fine of up to $10,000.00

so while i personally don't see anything wrong with people jetting 150km on the 401 (assuming the conditions are right), i myself will no longer even attempt to come close because the penalty is just too high.

You have two options when it comes to LAWS

you either obey them or you break them

if you break them you face the consequences and you don't bitch like a little girl on the internet

Why would you not contest it? I contest EVERY ticket whether I'm guilty or not. Saves me money and in your case, a license you just said you need for your job. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Also, there's always the chance they just let you plead out to a lesser charge. You really have nothing to lose by contesting.

you either don't work during the day

live close to the court house

or somehow never pay parking

cuz otherwise i don't see how fighting most tickets saves you money.

you're also wasting tax payer dollars by contesting a guilty charge while hoping for sympathy, good job!

In BC it does.

you end up paying a extra $300 a year for 3 years before the points go away

1) I don't have an issue with taking a few hours off work to go to the county courthouse, or I can schedule a court date on a day I'm off.

2) It was 20 miles away on the last ticket I got a deferment on. And I've only had one in the last 5 years.

3) Pay $2-5 dollars for parking or hundreds for a fine and impound fee . . . seems like a good ROI.

Also, I'm not wasting taxpayer dollars, I talk to a clerk, I talk to a DA, I talk to a judge, and not considering time spent waiting for my name to be called I take MAYBE 20 minutes of their time. It's not a trial in the US, it's traffic court and pretty damn efficient.

And I don't hope for sympathy, in WA we have laws that say the ticket must be filed within 5 days of the infraction, they have to provide their evidence for discovery upon request within 14 days of your hearing, and that if you've had a clean driving record you can simply ask for a deferment and if you don't get a ticket for 6 months, it drops off your record and insurance is none the wiser. And you get one deferment every 7 years. Those protections are there for a reason, as are our constitutional protections of A) facing your accuser B) Right to a speedy and fair trial/attorney. It ensures the process is fair, doesn't get dragged out, and gives you a break once in awhile.

Either way, I don't particularly agree with traffic laws, and there are multiple cases in the US where drivers have argued that the speed limit wasn't appropriate for the road and won/got the speed limit changed in one fell swoop.

If you know the law, there is absolutely no reason not to use it to your advantage. You get screwed on a regular basis by people who use it against you, mismanage their budgets, set traps/cameras/taxes to make up the difference. I have zero moral qualms with fighting a ticket based on an arbitrary and unscientific speed limit set by lawmakers and not engineers, enforced by a cop hiding on an offramp to meet his monthly quota, so long as I'm not endangering other on the road.

This guy might be another case, but you should still consult a traffic lawyer. There is no reason to grab your ankles and take it just because you feel guilty. Especially if your livelihood depends on driving. It's going to cost you either way probably, but at least look up the process for contesting it effectively or consult a lawyer. And learn your freaking lesson, stop driving like an ass, and buy a radar/laser detector for those times on long lonely roads.
