So why does it say "R" when in reverse when the clutch is in or out?

Because there is a sensor to tell the car it's in reverse in order to turn on the reverse lights (and backup camera for those that have that), when you're in reverse the car knows it so it displays it on the dash.

I turned the indicator on for about 5 minutes once, didn't like it and turned it off. As above, other cars have sensors for every gear, the 86 doesn't and imo it was the right decision.

So in forward gears it figures it out based on RPM and speed? That sounds cheaper than sensors.

So how does it know when I take off in 2nd gear? Man this car is smart!

Yup, there's a number in the system, rpm/mph = X = gear Y, or something not too different.

Mathematically there is overlap in that calculation, but never seen the car get it wrong. Like I said, smart car.

Look for:

Gear Determination Thresholds

And

Gear thresholds Vs Rev/Mile

in techstream...

How?

2000 rpm will result in 7 possible wheel speeds, no significant variation, that's true for every rpm.

Under what circumstances is your car "dog shit slow"? Roads that have actual turns are the solution to the problem, usually.

I hate how the head-unit cannot display foreign alphabetical characters. I have a few songs in my native language and the unit only displays blank place holders when I go to the track list. This lack of functionality really is disappointing and it doesn't recognize M4A iTunes format requiring me to convert my songs to MP3.

I also am hoping for a new and improved motor as well. As for changing the upgrades,I always felt like it's a cheap ass move to get the cheaper car and try to make it "look" like the one that's actually better.More times that not,you end up paying more in the long run anyway.

Now in the case of the WRX and the STI,it's been debated which one is actually "better" from a dollar to performance comparison. I would tend to agree with most that the WRX is a better value than the STI for this current generation, but for some reason,I get the feeling that Subaru will correct this issue and make the STI an undeniably better car than the WRX.Idk,call me crazy, but I think the next gen will justify spending extra for the STI,and if it is,I'll be there with cash in hand,so to speak.

The idea isn't to make it look like the STI, but to have the parts you actually want from the STI. For example, the WRX is pretty cool, but the STI shift knob looks better, so i'd rather have an STI shift knob. But i hate that they lowered the STI, so i'd rather have WRX suspension until i get my own setup.

Wait! Are you saying they're adjustable? I could swap in my spare gearbox with custom ratios and still make it work? Dayum, that's sweet!

I need to spend more time tinkering with techstream. Too lazy to take the laptop out to the car.

The car is sold in different countries with different final drive gearing.... so it has to be adjustable. That said I am NOT saying I have done this, nor that it is easy.

This! It's 2016, and it's amazing that an Asian car cannot display Asian track names!
