Nah, if that were the case they would be running on an orange track and doing loops, not just driving in flat circles.

Believe it or not you can be a shop that builds cars without being an actual engineer. But hey if you wanna believe hanging the turbos and intakes at the lowest point of a rally car is a good idea keep on believing it.

We might be arguing semantics. Yes, these are not engineering firms (on one end of the spectrum), but they are not just doing bolt-on, monkey-wrench installs either (on the other end). What they are doing does require a lot of engineering.

A person does not need to be an engineer to use engineering principles to design stuff. Regardless, I wouldn't be surprised if each of their shops had a computer engineer, electrical engineer and mechanical engineer, whether those individuals have a classical education, formal apprenticeship type education or are educated from practical experience or are self-taught. Depending on the shop, if aero fabrication is important then they could have an aerodynamic engineer or specialist.

What is wrong with having the turbos at the lowest point of a rally car?

The Porsche 959 was built for Group B rallying. Here is its engine:

Here is where the turbos sit:

Silly Germans.

Here are some pictures of the Singer with and without the floor-panel, which is really, really thick aluminum--like really, very, really thick. On top of that, it has three thick (probably steel) braces all around the turbos that are welded to a piece of thick steel, which are then mounted to the chassis and skid-plate/floor panel that is very, really, quick very and really thick.

The turbos are inline or slightly lower than the transmission. I really don't see a problem. What's your objection?

I’m sure eau rouge at Spa in an LP1 would throw me for loop.

I don’t have a problem calling them engineers. They can make wrist watches, they can be engineers.

Truly there are better things to do in automotive. Like continuously improving performance and content, reducing cost and emissions for the vehicles we actually drive. I don't even see this as aspirational for a future Porsche buyer.

Wasn't into the Mad Max series, maybe something to do with Mel Gibson being a racist..

Are you saying lift kits and rally setups are only for trucks, Jeeps and STIs?

I'd sooner HAVE an STI than put a lift kit on my car!

Testing a high-deflection suspension car at El-Mirage.

It's flatter there than any drag strip or Kansas track.

Is that an Anthony Davis light bar?

Incidentally, GETTING the STI is fun but having it not so much. Yes I'll take a deal on a Lambo Lm002 rather than pain while urinating in the longterm.
