I can think of only 2 logos on my car at nationals that where not required by SCCA, companies with contingency offers, or that where from a parts company that had given me some sort of deal on pricing, in one case a bit of gas money for the trip up, in return for recognition at national events during the year.

Its pretty amusing how many times I get comments about it during the year if I take the car somewhere in town. "Why are there stickers all over your car" "That's dumb, they require those?" and on and on.

Right after our heat all the vinyl was removed for the year till the first tour of 2015. I forgot what it looked like without all of them.

I shall speak for myself as I have some sponsors listed in my signature.

Each sponsor deal is unique, but generally speaking you are showcasing their products for either a discount or free product in return. It may be a new product that you are testing for them, or it may be an established product. Each deal is between the car owner/driver and the company.

Personally, I try not to be sponsored by products that don't make my car faster!

Some people think I'm also sponsored by Gold Bond because I recommend it so highly, but it's just really because it makes my balls feel good when it's hot!

Don't knock it till you've tried. it. Gold Bond is AMAZING!!! I don't know if I would have survived the week of Nationals without it

Good for your feet too

I will say Gold Bond made my Nats trip more enjoyable.

As for the stickers/ decals thing some again like others said are required other are for Contingency offered if you place well i.e. Subaru and Hankook.

My car was covered in some folks opinion, however all the folks on the door and rear quarter have contributed to the cars build. Most of us try to lend support back to our Sponsors and represent them as well as we can when we are at events. After all some of the setup is kinda like copy and paste with a little bit of edit.

Damn I would love to go next year but feel like I would be way outclassed and out driven. Plus I am nearly 3000km away

It isn't quite about being outclassed. Nats is a very large community of folks that enjoy the same type of racing. It is just fun being around people that share the same passion.

Even still, its hard to think about spending a few thousand dollars to trip down there and get my ass handed to me. I don't have sponsors to help out and have a mild STX build that is competitive locally but probably not elsewhere. I don't even have the budget for multiple sets of wheels and tires for racing.

Maybe in a few years.

Don't worry about how you drive or how outclassed you are. When I first got into the sport, I thought "Oh I don't care about nationals... it's all SRS BZNS and I'd get my ass handed to me." Finally my friends manage to convince me to go, I paid a friend to co-drive his car, and I loved every minute of Nationals! It's a week long party.... THAT is the core of Nats. The driving is secondary to it all. I somehow managed to snag the last trophy spot in FSP, but I would have been just as happy and had just as much fun in DFL place overall. You go to hang out with your friends, make new friends, and just enjoy a week around a sport you love. Win, lose, or draw... you're gonna love it!

And that's the other thing... you don't have to take YOUR car. Find someone else that's competing, make the trip down with them, and split costs.

TLDR: beer, cool cars, more beer, bigwheel prosolo, even more beer. Go and have fun!

Regardless of how much you think you are outclassed, you will return home a faster driver. Huge talent pool to pick brains from.

+1. I've always said if you want to be the best, you must compete against the best.

Besides, the nats crowd is really a drinking group with a racing problem!
