My apologies to all for the tardiness of this update.
Data logging completed this afternoon, 91 F air temperature, another hot one!
This is not scientific by any means. A/C was on the entire test.

Full throttle runs through 4 gears, then heavy traffic, then Full throttle runs through 4 gears, no top end runs due to traffic. At no time did the power levels ever seem lessened by oil temperature. Wish I had a track to test this.

Water never exceeded 197.6 F
Oil never exceeded 224, in fact it was steady at 219.2 then the heavy traffic and an abrupt stop saw it peak at 224 then dropped to 219. Any movement at all and the water temperature dropped to 194 within 1/8 of a mile. Oil temperature stabilized at 208.4 at a steady 70-75 mph on the Turnpike at mid day, I think at night with IAT lower that it will run within 8 degrees of water temperature.

It may not do what other coolers can do, but a normally aspirated automatic 4 cylinder with this oil cooler should live longer and not have oil temperatures that cause the ECU to strangle the timing during spirited driving.
The engine, from an oil temperature perspective, never ran hot. One older data log showed 241 at midday on a spirited run, with the factory header and the air on, once.
I believe the equal length headers have reduced engine temperatures as well, I can't prove that but it just seems to run cooler. Sorry if I'm off topic.

Well, i cant speculate on temps without the cooler, but on fuji speedway the highest i saw was 252 on the VERY long strait. this was at WOT 200+kph. It would drop very quickly to 230s on the less full throttle portions. water temp never went too much above 200. ambient temp was in the 60-70's.
EDIT: also i compared it to my friends stock STI cooler and it seems to have a decent amount more surface area.

It should install the same whether you put it on an OEM or an aftermarket radiator. Why do you ask?

I'm considering getting this oil cooler.

For 99.9% street, and the occasional AX or track day, I'd rather have my oil temps run a little high every once in a while, than have the temps run too low most of the time, and only reach proper operating temps when tracking.

This cooler looks like it'll keep my oil temps around 200 on the street, and on track the temps might see 230-240.

The posts I see of other oil coolers, street temps are 170-180 (too low I think) and get to 220-230 only when on track under super high load.

I'm not asking for installation reasons, I was asking to see what the temperature variances were compared to using the stock radiator.

Thanks for the reply. Any measurements of what cruising temps were like before the cusco oil cooler install?

No I haven't made any recordings of temp pre install, but I can say that it is great at bringing temps down fast when you come to a stop or are in slow traffic.

When I am doing hard pulls/ spirited driving I have no problems getting the temp up to 266 F quicker then I would like, but as the turbo is oil cooled this is likely the reason.

I have actually ordered an AVO oil cooler and it is going to be installed on top of the cusco to get the best from both

As the Cusco is great at bringing cold start oil temp up and the thermostatic controlled AVO cooler will manage temperatures when driving with boost to bring temps down.

Overall my opinion of the Cusco for FI application is that it is insufficient.

I data logged some temps with this cooler on track. As I mentioned in the post it cooled oil down faster than without it when you go off throttle.

This was also on 0W20 oil, so may be better with 5W30?

Thought this would be of interest to anyone browsing this thread:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=11

I also drive my car harder now so will try get some new data and share it in the next few weeks.
