Clicking from Behind Glove Box

2014 Monogram, auto.
Easy fix? This is above and to the left of the cabin filter.

Lengthier description for any future
Since purchasing the FRS, there was this sound as though a vent door was opening/closing behind the glove box roughly 30 seconds after turning off the engine. It got rougher with time as though whatever controls it started to fail. Eventually, I heard a clicking sound with the engine off. Now it's happening even when the engine is running.

Easy fix? Depends on if it's the actuator's that's skipping, or if the door is binding inside the air distribution unit.

Actuator fail often and they're usually easy to replace unless the engineer that designed the system decided to mount it behind the AC unit like I've seen done on cars from GM, Chrysler and Ford. If it's the air door, it's a dash removal.

Feel which actuator is skipping by touch, remove it, move the air door end to end with your fingers, if it doesn't bind, replace the actuator.

Subscribed: I believe I've been recently hearing something similar from my 2014 Monogram (manual) also. Starting to think it could be related to the automatic A/C controls (what the BRZ limited has). However, my car is said/similar making noises like it was.on steroids... It has approx. 144k miles.

Looks like we have some work to do, and something that a dealer would simply just charge you $2000 to replace the whole system instead of finding what's wrong.

Nah, I have a low opinion of dealer techs, but this isn't the thing to make money on. Small jobs with many small parts pay more than big jobs with few parts. Any service manager should know that it's more profitable to lose a tech for an hour on an actuator replacement than to lose him for 8 on a dashboard removal.

I saw your notification. I actually ended up replacing SU003-02044 to fix this. RZNT4R's advice helped.

Also, correct. The dealership here quoted me $1,700. They wanted to remove the entire dash so who knows what else they'd mess up.

Found this from another thread for additional context:

Incidentally, The inside of the plastic housing if you take it off looks like this:

As you can see, each servo moves a little door independently which mixes heat/cold air. I don't know exactly what it looks like in the manual version, but somehow those two shafts must be connected, unless it is a single piece.
