MT Track Comparison: 2016 Viper ACR vs. 2015 Corvette Z06
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qWYJQClIyY"]2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs. 2016 Dodge Viper ACR - Head 2 Head Ep. 72 - YouTube[/ame]
Wow I expected the Viper be the quickest at MRLS, but did not expect it to be 2.5 seconds faster than the Vette (and 3 seconds faster than a Porsche GT3 RS). What a dominant showing by the Viper.

I was an Engineering conference where GM was recruiting students. They had a workshop allowing students to view the latest tech and talk about what they do, etc. At the time the Z06 had been out for a while, it was already well known that the Z06 had overheating issues at the track, they kept bragging about how it's be unstoppable and the old car to beat it was a Hyper car (the 918). It was very difficult to hold it in and not ask about the overheating issues or if they were worried about the upcoming ACR. However...part of me is glad to see them put down by the Viper...

I work for GM but if I had the option I would take the Viper, albeit with a different exhaust...

For track yes.
For anything else, hell no. Did you watch the last half of the video? Heat, noise, and uncomfortable seats would make that thing terribly unpleasant driving around town. Don't get me wrong I love the Viper and would take one in a heartbeat but if I had to pick something for the street the Viper would not be my choice. |

Viper has less power/tq, right? It weighs 130lbs less, so that helps, but how is it winning?
Like they said the aero package, right? I mean it has a huge, huge wing that wouldn't be allowed at some airports with growths out the bumper that would definitely decapitate any squirrel, and I bet it has more ducks and channels under the car than Venice has under its streets. Not that any of it detracts from track oriented owners, but it isn't as refined looking because of it, and I believe other cars omit the aero package for that reason, which begs the question: if the Vette or other cars add such flamboyant accessories, would the ACR still be on top? |

One of those cars looks like it showed up at the last autocross I attended, the other looks like it's a paint job, set of tires, and an hour of interior removal away from competing at Le Mans...
Goes to show that it doesn't take rocket science to set a fast lap, looking at you Mclaren and Porsche. Edit: Rocket science is the wrong term, I guess I mean fancy overengineering on powertrains as I bet Dodge pulled in some Ferrari wind tunnel experience to complete the Viper. |

Turn-key racecars from the factory for "relatively" decent prices...awesome!

Even though the Viper has less weight, it wasn't faster in a quarter mile (it did trap a higher speed), it wasn't faster zero to 60 or faster through the figure 8. The Viper did best it in stopping, but the wing could help the Vette. At the end of the day, the Vette is a sports car that can be taken to the track. The Viper just doesn't seem in place driving the wife to dinner and a movie. If I wanted to buy a track monster that I could legally drive to the track, I would buy an Atom. |
