Multiple reviews have noticed very little difference. The butt dyno is usually biased and not reliable. It is likely incrementally better. For DD it is likely not a big change, if you are autox or tracking probably better to start your mod with a 2017, but not necessarily if you get a 2013 on the cheap.

If you are a due a new car than get a 2017, but if you like your older one, keep it.

Glad I ran into this thread. I wanted to see in person how the 2017 looks before committing into one. Although it seems it'll be til much later this year before you can get one with the track pack.

it's not going to feel like a supercharger has been installed, but i'm sure it'll feel zippier. I personally would like to keep the taller final drive but that's me, and this is my only car. the lower gas mileage isn't something i want.

true. tho +1ing tthese tires will inevitable compensate for this.

i.e. stock OD 24.7 - 225/40-18 = 25.1. i think 225/45-17 is 25+ as well.

I dropped a friend off at my local Subie dealer today to pick up a legacy he bought and lo and behold they had a 2017 berz on the lot. It was the lesser trim package (whatever they call it now) so no cool multi-function display. I sat in it, played with a few thins and got to feel the interior bits for quality.

Thoughts:

1.) New panels material is OK. It's not a huge upgrade, or maybe even an upgrade at all. It feels a little bit nicer but there is no padding to it so it doesn't feel as premium as perhaps you might expect.

2.) Saw the steering wheel and was convinced I would have to swap it ... until I touched it. The leather wrap is OK - but again not as soft as it looks like it should be. And even bigger for me was the plastic molding at the 9-3 on the back protrudes more than the 13'-16' wheel. TO ME it was less comfortable as I couldn't close my grasp as much as I like to - others may have no issue. The new plastic on the button surround was just getting in the way.

Couple of pics ...

Yes, there is piano black:

Door panels and dash panel are now a NEW kind of fake leather but still much better than silver plastic:

and also ... I couldn't overlook the blank wheel buttons on this trim. Pretty brutal since they are so hard to overlook. My guess is that they didn't want it not to be symmetrical so maybe this was the lesser of two evils:

The plastic covers are ugly. Why bother with steering wheel buttons to begin with?

Interesting. I had always just assumed the change in gearing was to get you to 60mph in 2nd gear to make the 0-60 time look better in the car magazines - since that's what so many people get hung up on.

Agreed. Those blank-off panels look terrible. Honesty, there is nothing about that steering wheel that is an upgrade over the previous style. If you must have buttons on the steering wheel, I always prefered the "pod-style" Nissan used to do so well:

http://images.hgmsites.net/med/2004-...00294495_m.jpg

Much less fussy, easier to reach instinctively, and when the printed lettering eventually wears of the buttons (it always does), you are not left with an ugly worn-out buttons staring you in your face.

One great thing about the original FR-S/BRZ is that (aside from the "coin tray"/ seat heater space that is easily remedied with a plaque), even the lower trim line vehicles look "complete" on the interior.

Glad I didn't order a premium. Those blanks would've annoyed me to no end.
