I liked my S4 better than this phone. I also shattered my screen from a ~3-4 ft drop on my hardwood floor

You can't really blame the phone for a shattered screen though, if you're saying that's the reason you don't like the M8. I don't have either the M8 or the S5 but I would pick the M8 if I had to get one of them. Looks better, better speakers, better (IMO) version of Android (TouchWiz vs Sense), stands out among the others. The S5 may be powerful (just as powerful as the M8, by the way) but it's the most boring looking phone released this year.

Watch any videos/reviews comparing the latest flagship phones. All of them make the S5 look like it's two years old, at least in terms of design.

In a line-up of great looking phones, there's the (again IMO) hideous S5. And don't think I'm biased or anything. I've owned iPhones, Galaxy's, HTC's, Blackberry's over the last two or so years, and now a OnePlus One. I'd like to think I have a good enough experience with all of them to make a fair judgement.
