Issues with Color on XXR Wheels

He guys

First, this is not a flame thread, just something I noticed today and would like to know if any of you had the same issues.

Also, I'm aware XXR Wheels are quiet cheep (well, not over here, as we pay around 1600 USD for a set), however I had/have 2 Sets of Rotas, that are about in the same price range over here with no issues like that at all. So also no need for any "buy shiny 4000USD Wheels and you wont have those issues" answers please.

Anyway, to the topic.
I have some XXR 527 wheels in Chromium Black, and on arrival in January, one of them had some issues with "balancing" (whatever the word in english is, what you do after you mount the tires to balance the wheel).
Anyways, my importer was very helpful and just ordered me an replacement wheel free of charge. That replacement arrived today, so I went to a tire shop to change the wheel. Now, up to this moment, it did not even cross my mind that the wheels could not be the same color. However, when the tireguy took of my "defective" rear wheel to take the tire off, he says to me "sorry sir, but those are not the same color"
I first tought it was just the light causing the chromium black to "shine" different, however compared both next to each other its quiet obvious its not the same.
I checked then the other wheels on my car, finding that 3 of them had a quiet dark chromium black, and one was also more silverish chromium black. (see below for pictures. Left side is ok and black, right side rear wheel is off color vise)

So, I called my importer, and basically he said he never had any complains in this manner and was a bit confused aswell. I'm quiet happy that they taking this issue seroiusly and we are now checking if we can get 4 wheels with the same color of chromium black, or if we revert the contract.

However, am I really the only one having this issues? Could you guys with XXR chormium black wheels please also check if your color is really matching? I find it hard to belive that I am just so unlucky to be the only guy that gets 3 different colorings of chromium black.

XXR builds the wheels in batches. The colors are not always the same from batch to batch. It would appear that the new batch of wheels is a brighter paint than the old.

This can certainly cause some problems if you have to replace a wheel.

Bad luck man.. sorry to see it.

That sucks man! Sorry to hear about that! I have 527's in Flat Black and i had no problems at all. I know they will get it sorted out. I know @JoeBoxer is a vendor and i purchased them thru him, I dont know if he could help out but i know whatever vendor you went thru will get it sorted out for you.

I had a similar issue in 2006 with some Enkei EVO5's in hyper silver.
It was less obvious, and I had a struggle to get it resolved but they swapped them out. Took a few weeks.
One of the drawbacks of that type of color.

It is somewhat difficult to get that type of paint to look exactly the same when painting on different days, different setups etc. as everything is so dependent on the way the flakes lay down and the way the wheel surface reacts to the paint etc.

I would guess you are going to need 3 more new wheels though.

no, my importer is from switzerland so I'm dealing with them. From my first talk with them I think they will rather take the wheels back and refund me my money then to try to get me a batch that looks the same. Not sure, but he sounded like its almost impossible for them to get all wheels from the same batch/with the same color so they rather not taking the chances of ordering another set that may not have the same color. Which is strange for me as either I am super picky and other customers dont mind the different color, or they just dont care and repaint the wheels without telling the importer about it.
Anyway, it would suck if they refund me because I really like the wheels.

Just dont understand why its not possible to guarantee a set of 4 wheels coming fromt he same batch and being the same color...

At least I'm happy that you guys also find it a notable difference in color, as I was really starting to think if I'm the only one finding this not okey.

I'm pretty non-fussy about stuff like that, but that is way off. You are right to return it/them.

Dupli color makes a paint kit called Shadow Chrome that i'm almost certain could get it to match. However, you shouldn't be responsible for this and i'd hate for it to now work so try at your own risk.

Between this and Ryan's issue with a defective wheel that won't balance i'm strongly considering not selling these anymore.

Wow that looks almost silver to me. Hopefully that gets resolved. Chromium black was one of the colors I was planning to get too.

I'm having very similar issues with my Grids. I got the deep black coating or whatever its called and its flaking off. My wheels have been sitting in my garage since I bought them during Black Friday and the weather was shit then. Pulled them from my garage and I find 2 of the 4 wheels have their coatings all chipping and flaking away.

Still waiting for WheelDude to send me some return tags so I can return these ones and get new ones
