Possible. I just know I have seen some pretty sweet Challengers. At least Dodge still knows what colours are.

For 1st gen, the dealerships in my area kept low inventory in stock, so the price was almost non-negotiable. If you wanted a different color or options, you'd have to order one and pay the full price. It has only gotten much worse recently. Maybe wait till Dec or Jan when sales slow down.

My local Subby dealer won't stock BRZs. The next closest Subby and Toyota dealers are 1 1/2hrs away and might stock a couple. The masses in Colorado don't want RWD. I expect to order a car and pay basically MSRP.

With the current market, I'm hoping for MSRP.

This will be the second or third time that the plant has been idled.
The one plant we build sub assembly modules for in Windsor went down for 5 days about 7 weeks ago. They still don't know when they are actually starting up again. Our orders at the manufacturing plant go up and down every day to the point we have no clue what to make.
Anyone know if they actually stopped production last Friday? Have more info on duration?

I did a quick search, but found nothing.

Didn't hear that they didn't so I assume they went back up as per plan.

So, regarding dealer markups, I've got an out-the-door quote from a dealer and, in the invoice, there is a $500 "fee" listed. I'm assuming this is the "dealer's fee".

I've never bought a new car until now. Is it normal to have to pay a fee like this? Would this be considered marking up the car?

If there are no other "random" charges it's likely a "document fee" which is a charge for them doing the paperwork to sell you the car. It sucks but pretty much all dealers charge that these days.

It's probably a "documentation fee." Which I dealers to shove it if they want me to buy the car.

The problem is, many people get so emotional about a new car purchase, they will agree to anything once they are with the finance guy. Don't have the will power to say no to things they don't agree with.

When I had to suddenly replace my 135i because of rod knock, I literally drove a mile from my mechanic, to get a used '18 Mazda 3. The finance guy said, "OK I've got you approved at 8.99% APR."

I responded with, "You can see my 800+ credit score and you can see my income, what makes you think I'd agree to an interest rate 5% higher than PenFed?"

Magically, I was approved at 3.99%. They will try to screw you anyway they can if you don't know what you're doing.

Yea, I've walked over similar things. When we bought MomHawk's Mustang we had an agreed-to out the door price then the bill of sale had a $750 doc fee on it.

I looked at it, said, "what is this, here's the price we agreed to". The salesman pulled the normal "standard fees, can't remove, blah, blah blah". I told him "that's fine, I need another $1000 of the car to compensate. I don't car what you decide to call the price I pay on your paperwork, but it needs to add up to the number we agreed to". He said "Can't do that", we said "OK, thanks" and got up and left. We didn't make it all the way to our car before he chased us down and sold us the car for what we had originally agreed to.

I'm one of them. I do much better negotiating a deal for a friend or family member since I can walk away without any emotional attachment and the SM knows that. When negotiating my own deal, the shoe's on the other foot. I should have someone else do the same for me!

Exactly. That's why it's great to be in a position to not NEED to buy a car.

That dramatically lowers the leverage you have against them on price and/or warranty/service deals.

This is why I constantly encourage people to buy well under they can afford so they can actually maintain the car and not get in that situation (My 135i was a freak case of developing rod knock @ 31k miles being bone stock driving home from brunch one day, and I wasn't about to spend $6-7k to drop a used engine in it.)

I always start out with telling them how many cars I have owned (currently 146) and cutt out all of the BS.
