Yeah I know…

If call quality in CarPlay was fixed, I’d order right away.
If I even knew they were aware of and working on the issue, I might go ahead and order already.

But denying the issue doesn’t give me much confidence.

Definitely not alone with the call quality issue - same thread on XDA developers mentions it as well:

I did another call yesterday and again my wife said she wasn’t echoing but she did say I was hard to hear. So it seems like the echo is fixed. Maybe it’s just a mic gain issue at this point.

Do any of the volume settings in Factory Menu Options (password 168) allow you to fix that?

It sounds like the mic issue has to do with the internal mic not being disabled even when the external one is plugged in...

People [here](https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/t...189041/page-46) on XDA are having success taping up a pin that leads to the internal mic. If that's something that feels easily within the ability of someone, they are welcome to try it!

And any video of the process would be super cool and helpful.......

I’m out of town right now but tomorrow morning I should be able to give this a shot. I’ll get some video or photos of the process. Before installing I pulled this panel off and saw this ribbon cable so I know it’s easy to access at least.

I gave it a shot. For the life of me I couldn’t get tape to stay on. There just isn’t enough surface for it to stick to. I just desoldered it which I could easily reverse. I’m sad to report it had no impact on call quality. My wife says I’m still very faint while in CarPlay. Native BT calls are fine. So I will stick with hitting the back button to close CarPlay causing the call to transfer to a standard BT call. I use Siri to initiate the call and then hit the back button to close CarPlay before they pick up the phone.

I suspect I will solder the mic back on since is had no effect. It’s interesting that the guy on the XDA forum saw such a dramatic improvement. He was testing in Android Auto though.

I still have hope that one day they will fix the CarPlay issue. It’s obviously not hardware because BT calls are fine.

Thank you for testing! Yes, really hoping they address the issue soon. It seems like a fantastic unit in almost every other way.

I’m all about driving so talking on the phone just takes away from the driving experience. So I spend as little time possible on the phone when I’m in the car. So this call quality has minimal impact on me. I love everything else about this unit. I have mine configured to launch directly into CarPlay as soon as I turn the key and it’s working really well. I did a road trip in our Suburban and the whole time I was missing CarPlay. I saw a video of someone with a CC3 in a Suburban but can’t find a link to buy one.

I’m torn between this unit, and the Joying 11.6”.

I haven’t been hearing call quality issues with that one - it sounds like CarPlay is better than built-in Bluetooth (although that isn’t a direct comparison to this unit.)

Would someone be willing to measure the dimensions of this unit (width x height of the total unit, not just the screen) so I can make mock-ups with a direct comparison?

Also - have any of you come from a Joying unit? How would you compare them in terms of stability, sound quality (if you had one with a DSP)?
