The dip is a tradeoff of not having an EGR valve pollute the tops of your intake valves. Just drive around and stop being a *****.

I was out and about today in the FR-S. I pulled up next to a motorcycle. I revved my engine. He was kind enough to look back, thumbs up my kid and smile back at her in the back seat. I then thought I might give him a run for his money as we were both turning on to a on ramp. (I would lose of course it was a nice bike) Then it hit me and I got cold, I remembered the torque dip of my engine. I then just hoped I would make it up to speed in time to merge on to the highway.

As a 15 year VW owner/driver, I really like my Mk4 GTI, 1.8t, rear beam axle and all, but I really enjoy driving. I bought the 1.8t because I thought is was the easier to modify engine (and it is) and because it was lighter over the front wheels than the VR6. However, I never modified it to the point I thought I would get to. It has done me well. Flash forward 15 years, and I thought I needed 4 doors, a hatch/wagon for Dad duties, and VW has two great wagons, with 6spd manuals no less and I thought that one of them would be my next car, because wagons (and hatches are cool). The GTI was nice, but almost too expensive for what it is. The Alltrack and GSW-4mo were the 90% solution and would be fast enough. After test driving a '18 BRZ (limited) in late November 2018, everything has changed and the BRZ is my #1 and it can't be further from the VW Alltrack/GSW I was considering, but it has everything I want out of a car - a thrilling and rewarding driving experience, even it is isn't terribly fast. Is it the best or most rewarding? No, but I don't have the cash to get that car at this time. However, the BRZ does deliver what I am looking for at the price I want to pay. Does the BRZ come with some limitations/compromises? Yes, compared to the wagons, but 98% of the time, I am the only one driving my car and we take the CX-5 for kid hauling, shopping, and road trips. I'm sure we would do the same in the wagon, but Mrs. GoFrogs doesn't like to drive manuals. So, if my car is going to be my car, I might as well get something I want to drive and that rewards me for the drive. I'm positive I'd enjoy the Alltrack/GSW-4mo, but the BRZ has abilities and sensations the VW can't match. The BRZ can haul my kid (7yo) if need be and as long as I can get my golf clubs and soccer coach gear in, I'm golden. When Mrs. GoFrogs rides in the car, she'll just have to get used to the lower seat, but we aren't tall people to begin with, and the BRZ sits about 3 inches lower than the GTI, so no biggie. Cheers.

OK I got off the ramp. Some guy in a BRZ saw my plight and blocked the lane so I could get out. Must be an AT though since he is way back there and can't catch up so I can wave in thanks.
