I was dead set ready to go for pentosin after bad shifting on the redline products and lack of OEM oil here in Australia. Not gonna lie, seeing how clean stock oil came out after 14k km compared to dezoris' pentosin drain video really scared me. I'm not one to associate thin with wear but I'm not too sure in this case. His uoa didn't help either lol. Thinking of running 50 50 mix amsoil synchromesh and 75w 90 unless someone can convince me otherwise : )

We've installed Motul Gear 300 75w90 in 100s of Subies and probably 50-100 BRZ/FRSs as well as use it in our own street, track and race vehicles.

The benefits of the Motul Gear 300 is that it is both GL4 and GL5 so you can use it safely in the Trans and Rear Diffy. It also is fully synthetic for long term durability in harsh conditions and has the smooth properties of the Extra S (which isn't synthetic).

Interval change on the Motul is about 30K miles.

Motul 300 here as well. Shifts fantastic once warmed up, but like all manual transmission I've owned and put synthetic in (Speed 3, 350Z, '13 Mustang GT, multiple BMWs, Miatas, etc) it's a bit crunchy for the first few miles.

Ok here's mine:

Stock fluid: it was good, positive throws when it was warmed up and the gearbox made a cool sound when going into gear smoothly, but it wore quickly and in winter I would get locked out of 2nd or have scarier things happen where I couldn't get it into 1st at a light, so at that point I knew I needed to change the MT fluid.

Motul Gear 300: better than the worn out stock fluid, doesn't have the same feel, but the drive-ability of the car is improved 100% because it upshifts and downshifts more quickly with less effort, allows me to clutch and throw a gear and clutch out all in one move. If there's one thing I can say negative about it is that the throws into 3rd and 5th feel less positive and there's less notchiness, instead they just go into gear with a small bump.

I would have liked to tried redline or amsoil, but since Motul is what's in there and performs well I'm going to stick with that.

Amsoil's site recommends severe gear 75W-90 for the rear diff and their site says it can be used for GL4 and GL5. But they also sell a specific Manual Transmission 75W-90 that's GL4 that their site says is for the transmission. If it was me I'd order the MT fluid.

Further proof that people saying a fluid is both GL4 and GL5 rated and using it in transmissions are confusing the GL rating with transmission compatibility. Two separate animals.

True, which is why I said I'd order the specific MT fluid and not use the Severe Gear. This is the first MT car I've owner, so I admit I don't know much about them. Differentials and transfer cases are more my area.

Just wanted to add to this thread my own experience and that of a close friend.

I went with over the counter Valvoline 75W90 synthetic in both tranny and diff. After about 5k miles, started getting a grinding when trying to get into 5th at after the transmission warmed up. Every other gear is smooth as butter, even when the car is cold.

Friend of mine went with Amsoil 75W90. His car took about 3k miles before 5th started to grind. Again, no other issues with the fluid and he plans on swapping it out soon.

I've done some reading on the Genesis Coupe forums (same asin 6MT), and they seem to be having luck with either Redline Lightweight Shockproof, or a mix of Redline Lightweight Shockproof + Redline 75W90. Anyone tried either of these?
