Relax guys, there's no need to add weak insults to the discussion.

Let me clarify, I said just as many changes but not specific to the components you listed. Frame and engine cradle would obviously raise the price beyond what your average Joe would spend on an Evo.

I would say components being upgraded to aluminum (suspension, fenders, hood, roof, front crash beam, etc), brakes, engine, s-awc, ayc...so on and on seems like a big change to me considering what the base car is.

Going from $16K to $33K+, I'd hope I'm getting a completely different car. In the same case with jumping from a base Vette to a Z06 or even the ZR1 for that matter.

My 991S has somewhat expensive materials used in it's construction and the $100K+ price tag reflects upon that. But I wouldn't consider it a super car. Nor would I consider the Turbo version of the 911 a super car. But that's based on my definition of what a super car is. They don't qualify. I think of things like high price tag, top of the line performance, exclusivity, rarity, etc as the criteria for meeting the super car definition.

Sure, if we based it strictly on performance numbers alone, there would be a ton of 'super cars' out on the road. Let's just say we don't see eye to eye and leave it at that.

I'd imagine the latter is much closer to being a supercar than the former.

So defining a car based on what the lowest level model is...I'm assuming the FR-S/BRZ's closer to being a super car than an Evo?

I never said that those aren't big changes. I just don't think they push an Evo into super car territory which we both agree on. Those are very similar to the things that change a BMW 3 series into an M3.

Nope. They're both econoboxes. One just has factory rice, like an STI does.

Name me a supercar that's based on an econobox platform.

I agree with you. There's a difference between pushing super car like performance versus being a super car. Super car it'll never be, pushing super car performance numbers...in stock trim, won't happen.

Factory rice? Please explain. When I think of rice I'm thinking useless components tacked on which serve no function. I didn't realize STi and Evo's were rice.

Lol. Boy racer wing. Body kit. Big wheels. Shiny brake calipers.

They're not necessarily rice, it's just "factory rice" nahmean? Corvette ZR1 is the factory rice Corvette model, too. However, that has carbon fiber tubs and stuff like that, so it's a bit further off the mark to call it factory rice (you know, except those raw carbon fiber vents on the outside ).

Have you been reading what's been posted on here or did you just jump in haphazardly? Just because something's closer in potential to being a super car doesn't mean it's a super car. There's no lesser version of a super car. For example, Ferrari doesn't make a neutered down version of their 458 Italia.

Assuming you thought I said the Evo was a super car with your above response, let me clarify...that was never said.

On that note... what's your opinion of the C63 AMG Black Series? That car is pretty bad ass. It's not quite based on an "econobox," but its roots are associated with the run-of-the-mill C-Class that definitely doesn't exactly scream "performance," yet nobody seems to crucify it the way people dismiss Evos, STIs and even the R32/Golf R just because of how far down the totem pole their base model is. Did you guys also brush aside the Integra Type-R too just because the base GS/RS was a two-door econobox?

Old Lamborghini's were based on tractors. I'd rather have a fast econobox

The ITR is an econobox. It's a blast to drive, capable on the track and extremely useful as a car in all regards, but it's still a hopped up Civic with some extra welding and go-fast bits.

Regarding the Benz.. no manual trans.. no care.

And the original Vipers had what were originally re-worked truck engines.
