This thing is going to be a disappointment. It will be fast, but it will also be heavy and not competitive against light cars with power upgrades on track.......... just like the original Supra.

Calling it now.

Well if its gonna be a z4 twin, I see a 50-60k price tag.

Nothing wrong with that as long as what they design looks good. The only reason many purchased the FR-S over the BRZ was because of their preference of aesthetics, myself included.

I don't like the way the BMW looks. It's like they took the front of a 5 series and put it into a sandwich press and then had it breed with a new Charger.

I'm with you 100%.

But I'm sure it won't be long before we see a 2JZGTE in one

I wanted one of these bad but got tired of waiting.

They are not even showing the concept at the auto shows anymore and news has been very scarce up until this latest piece.

If this magic unicorn does come out in 2017/18 then I may be looking at it again, meanwhile I ordered a C7 vette to hold me over.

While I have the utmost respect for that platform, the motor is over 20 years old.

For whatever reason, it looks like Toyota is too lazy to come up with their own platform. It's as if they don't even care anymore and just want to slap their badge on it to rack up sales. If they could get ever Yamaha on board again, I'm sure they could come up with something better than the 1JZ and 2JZ that have become so prestigious.

2jz holds lots of boost, thanks to the cast iron block, but its a heavy heavy bastard.

I do not feel that any modern vehicle would benefit from a 2jz. I honestly think that is the worst swap anyone could do given the options in today's market.

Why would you want a 2jz if they put a s55b30? It just seems so counter-productive to me.

You would want a 2jz because it will more tuneable and most importantly will keep on going no mather what!

424 bhp and 369 lb*ft of torque w/ the factory tune.
You want more? for what? I guess if you just like driving straight.

There is so much technology and engineering in that engine. To me, proposing a 2jz swap is a kin to strapping a bottle rocket to a G.I. Joe.

Sideways, I think we all know if Tada didn't petition for the twins to be made none of us would be here right now.

My point is, you come off as if Toyota just contacts another car company and says, "build a car for us, we don't care what you do." when in reality it's more like, "Let's build this car but partner with another firm so we can save money on R&D."

remember these car companies are businesses and will do whatever they can to make the most profits, even if that means sharing their designs with other car firms.

One should also note the last time Toyota built a super sports car by themselves we got the LF-A.

-they only made 500
-they cost over $300,000

Partnering with BMW could mean the price won't be as high as it could've been also it could insure a long production life.

Hell, the ND Miata will have an Alpha Romero twin

This is not the first time a car has held 2 badges.

If your swapping a VVTI 2JZ that technological advancement isn't that big!

If you knew what technology was in the s55b30 then you wouldn't have posted that :p

Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing....I had many a GI Joe that completed a successful mission with multiple bottle rockets strapped to his back! Sure, maybe he had to spend some time with Nurse Barbie afterwards, but is that such a bad thing?
