Was reading this thread (http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79339) about possible boost leak into the crankcase. I don't know if it applies to all setups or just specific ones, but the OP claims that there is no restriction to pressure or vacuum, although I am not sure if he is talking about the crank case or the back of the intake manifold. He also claims to have gained 1.5 psi from installing a check valve between the intake mani, and the block.

If this is legit, considering our mechanical limitations on boost, the phantom could benefit from it. Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge about this?

Your not going to magically gain more boost. The phantom is already maxed out. It migth hold boost a bit longer but i dough it.

I don't think it is magic, more like plugging a "leak", where boost in the intake is leaking in and pressurizing the crankcase. I am pretty sure the crankcase is sealed so there really shouldn't be any boost leak to the atmosphere, but maybe the added volume of the crankcase is absorbing some of the flow that would otherwise be flowing into the combustion chamber. Of course this is only if the manifold pcv does not stop back-flow, and also if OP is not mistaken about his higher boost readings.
And being that the phantoms flow is limited by the max speed of the compressor motor, and not say a BOV, even plugging a small leak should theoretically increase max boost on the low end, and a provide a higher sustained boost to red line.

I subbed just to see what happens.

Anyone in colder climates trying this out? It's about to be pretty cold here and I'm curious how well this would work for me during winter.

You may be waiting for a while. I don't foresee the q300 coming out soon.

I have been really out of the loop since blowing up my unit in August. Pushed the unit to the brink and boom, blown electrical motor and controller. The heat was so intense in my engine bay the magnet came off the electrical motor.

So everyone reading this thread, rule number #1 - on hot days above 90+ degrees it is definitely in your best when on the track or autocross to lift the hood and let things cool off. This particular date I did over 40+ 1 minute autocross runs in two seasons lasting approximately 2 hours each. . Additionally my aftermarket header (ceramic coated inside and out) sits less than 6 inches from the turbine. .

After corresponding with Rob he too agreed I beat the shit out of the controller and unit. Only the turbine and controller casing where salvageable.

Boost is scheduled to return in early January! I have been enjoying the car throughly in N/A the past 3 months and wonder how I it will feel again with an additional 45HP. . .

Just checking back in, any news on new batches? Still waiting eagerly.

I see there are some neat changes in software and the compressor wheel as well as partial boost at not WOT

I will be contacting the next people on the list in the beginning of January. Expecting kits to ship between the 2nd and 3rd week of January

The new standard kit includes partial boost(yay!), new controller, new harness and the simplified wiring with new batteries.

I will post all details when I get back from vacation.
