The final drive is taller in the auto. I don't know the numbers but I expect the top cruising gear in the transmission is about the same between the auto and manual

I dont know how you guys get that high mpg.
I have about 220 and 1/4 gas in the tank.

my s2000 just barely touch 200mpg for a full tank.
but really, as long it goes over 200mpg, who cares.

That would make sense, Toyota and Subaru probably wanted to keep the engines powerband similar in both transmissions.
When I’m cruising in 6th at 65-70 mph the rpms are around 3000 to 3500. It’s good for accelerating in 6th, but I wish the rpms would be closer to 2000.

I do a lot of highway driving, and I try to stay in 6th gear as much as I can.
I’m not sure about the S2000 though, that is a really high strung motor (and one of the best NA motors ever made)

I've said it before (maybe in this thread honestly

), but I too wish sixth was a bit taller on our car.

I'm turning almost the same RPM in this car in 6th at 70 as I am in my G4 Celica in 5th. Yeah - it's nice to have passing power, but I'd rather it cruised around 2500 at 70 and I could downshift if I really needed some juice.

Get a taller final drive. You'll lose torque but you'll get there rpm you want for cruising

Because you don't get freeway mileage by just putting the car on the freeway, stop and go is stop and go city mileage no matter what the pavement under the car is called.

Drive 100 miles after 10pm at 65mph with cruise control on and unless you've messed with the car you'll get over 30mpg. My best tank was over 34 mpg from Sac to San Jose starting at 9pm on a Sunday.

65mph being crucial.
92mph is only 42% faster than 65, but you see DOUBLE the aero drag than you see at 65. Even if your car is geared for low rpms at high speed, you can’t beat aerodynamics.

55 is even more fun. I've hit over 40 mpg 2 times when I had long highway trips.

I tried it for a few miles on that 34 mpg trip, too much traffic and I was getting sketched out by people coming up behind me too fast, it'd work great if I was traveling between 1am and 6am.

Yeah it’s sad but true in Dallas also. I would be a speed bump for some hillbilly lifted mega duty quad cab pick em up truck.

Seriously there are trucks and Jeeps here that would literally roll right over my car.

At 55 you really could see some awesome highway mpg though. I usually average about 32 which I’m very happy with.

As mentioned earlier, my best full tank (I don't measure smaller quantities than that) was 40.51MPG. That was highway speeds at between 60 and 79MPH on cruise control with no traffic on relatively flat roads between Atlanta, GA and Ocala, FL in relatively moderate temps.

I make 30-35 miles everyday (50-60km) Elevation diff between job and home is about 400 meters (1312.34 foot), I have many ramps on my way.

According to my car's computer, I usually consume around 23.5 mpg (10 L/100km).

A few days ago my wife told me that some traffic fines had a 1000% raise! So I've been using the cruise control since. I liked the cruise control interface and response of this car. My other cars' cruise controls were very aggressive. This works very smoothly.

Average of the last few days is 34.59 mpg (6.8 L/100km) which is great for my road.
